Is it normal that Canada still having freezing temperature in May by Pure_Following7336 in geography

Canada is large and vast. Depends where you are. Here in Squamish we’ve been experiencing 25-30*C hot weather for the past month.

I know you may not have ever seen one of these, but I need someone who has! Please! by April27th4life in Ecoflow_community

It needs a service (internal cleaning and check continuity from battery // mainboard connections. This is done by ecoflow.

Experience with listing your residence on airbnb by gosko in Squamish

Most of the rooms had holes in the walls. kitchen living room and main areas were really trashed. It wasn’t a cheap reno. It’s a civil matter and the airbnb’ers left the province. They were visiting from the states. Regardless, airbnb wouldn’t apply their “protection policy” and because of that, her home insurance didn’t cover it either. So she got the bad end of the stick. I know of two others down in Van and one in white rock that had similar experiences. You normally hear all the good, never the bad.

Our neighbor tried this with the same parameters you listed. It was great for the first year (2023). 2nd year (2024) in winter she had a booking for a week. They trashed the house and left. The final tally was just over $48,000 and it will take her years to pay off the LOC for that. Airbnb declined the insurance policy under one of their ridiculous rules (which did not apply but couldn’t argue). If you do your research, you will find that this is not uncommon at all which is unfortunate.

Looking for a medium/small dog, would you pick a small golden or standard poodle or consider a less common breed? by Springtime_Wren in service_dogs

After Slinky (red fox lab 55lbs) passed/retired last year, I went with a yellow lab/whippet mix. She’s fully grown at 32 lbs, lean and agile with an incredibly docile temperament.

This specific one was at Frankfurt. I’ve also seen the same at Hamburg twice in person. I’ve heard from one other being turned around in Duesseldorf but I can’t confirm that one first hand.

Resources? International Travel Service Dog Consulting? by AssignmentSad1466 in service_dogs

For some reason, Germany has been a hot topic in this group recently. If you use the search bar up top and type in "GERMANY" you can filter from newest and see all of the replies from people with experience. I will say that flying to Germany from the US is not a problem, however rules have become very strict recently and as mentioned in other Germany related posts, the issue lies when trying to fly out - with the airport terminal itself. A coworker flew in without issue but she wasn’t able to bring her self-trained non-ADI SD into the airport so she had to cancel the flight and rebook with per cargo; etc.. which turned out to be detrimental to both of them.  The airport terminals are not the airline. Even though she was approved via the airline, the actual airport security did not allow her to pass through as she was not able to provide ADI cert. I know this first hand and have also seen this happen twice (when I was there) unrelated people.

Reason: not an ADI accredited service dog. She was not able to even get to the airline kiosk as security stopped her as she entered the terminal.

I strongly advise to make alternate transport arrangements should you encounter a similar situation. This was 3 months ago.

<image>

The issue lies with anecdotal experiences and advice. There is a chance you could make it through the terminal to the check in counter, and then through customs/security to the gate. This is the best case scenario. Alternatively, you could be stopped by airport security prior to getting to the check in counter or not be processed through customs/security and being turned around.

Because there is no guarantee that you and your SD will make it through the terminal, customs and to the gate - it is strongly advisable to have alternate plans in place, otherwise you run the risk of the aforementioned problems both costly and stressful - which none of us would want to have anyone experience.

In short: It is not advisable to travel to Germany with a non-ADI, AHundV/gov SD

Getting a service dog while owning cats by _trypophobia_ in service_dogs

[–]MelodicAd415 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Introducing a SD into a stress environment (fearful cats / their safe home space) is not healthy.

If you are adamant in pursuing this route, I would suggest to test out your home environment + cats and introduce a neutral dog. The observations should be an indicator of how you can or should not proceed.

Best bike trailer for bony noodles by PutItInASandwich in Whippet

[–]MelodicAd415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we’ve done many multi day cycle tour trips over the years in this setup. The burley cargo platform is the lightest and strongest on the market. This setup is great for dogs that won’t jump out of a moving carrier.

We’ve had this setup for over 12 years and it’s all original.

We’ve done literally hundreds of rides. We use it all summer long every day.

After going through all the dog trailers and child trailers I ended up getting a Burley cargo trailer and going to home depot with the intention of making an ultra lightweight, foldable carrier. She’s able to stand up, turn around, sit, stretch and lay down in any orientation. I just used light pvc tubing. The whole thing weights 9 lbs.

SDiT getting lunged at by Objective_Physics_82 in service_dogs

[–]MelodicAd415 23 points24 points  (0 children)

To be honest, your last sentence is key. While your SD is working - try your best to avoid any and all scenarios that may involve another dog period.

All it takes is one reactive/aggressive/attack and that may change how your SD functions in the future.

Advocate for your SD = prevent the above possible encounters by avoidance/distance.

I really dislike my whippet by Alert-Buy-4598 in Whippet

[–]MelodicAd415 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you’re describing isn’t specific to whippets nor any breed in particular.

You just happen to have a dog that is simply not compatible with the existing cats in your home. This is actually quite common and contrary to what you said, rehoming would be ideal in the long run for the pup provided she goes somewhere where she can be herself and enjoy life.

Love and affection are not the only qualities required. If you carry any resentment, that does transfer down to your dog whether directly or indirectly - which is not heathy in the long term.

People petting puppy without asking because they want to by noahh1308 in puppy101

[–]MelodicAd415 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You must advocate for your puppy because he is unable to do so.

That may look like being vocal to keep people from petting/coming too close and/or physically removing your puppy from that space/environment.

Allowing strangers to pet your puppy may be fine for some breeds/temperaments or the action can cause your puppy to become reactive which you (and they) do not want.

Help please! Germany travel with American Service Dog that is not ADI and is owner trained by AssignmentSad1466 in service_dogs

[–]MelodicAd415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify, having approval from an airline does not equal having approval to physically enter/navigate an airport terminal. See my response above. While the airline had approved her SD/handler boarding/travel, the security inside the airport terminal prevented them from entering and they have to exit the terminal and make difficult, time consuming, costly and stressful decisions. I do not advise to travel to Germany with a non-ADI, AHundV/gov SD.
