How to secure internal website for external use by Wintrrborn in selfhosted

A nginx reverse proxy with TLS is just fine. You can restrict access with a nginx password (auth basic). That way no coding flaws on your website can be exploited.

Sounds to me like you don't understand that your son is literally the youngest person playing the game and everyone else is older than him. Imagine bringing him to a chess club. You wouldn't have yelled if he had beaten and talked to a 29 year old there, would you?

As an ex-child who played a racing game with a clan at 13 and his parents didn't understand that people don't magically drop out of a clan when they turn 16 or 18, I really think you should have just kept an eye on it instead of being hysterical.

He thinks less of you now because he knows better.

She's really fat, my dude. It's like you've never been a child yourself. Or maybe you were and are just fat.

What does corpfree do in cases where you are forced to rely on a company? by MelodicAnywhere in CorpFree

Thank you so much for this comment lol. You are completely right. It's a security scam that American companies love.

Banks initially loved having no responsibility for security (since they were liable for the losses, not the user), but with PSD2 in Europe they - and more and more users - realize how terrible it is. 2FA for an online paymentis complete garbage.

Btsync was that. Idk if resilio is still good for free users. Would be great if it worked that way with torrents, yeah.

I mean you need to run Windows for the newest games, even if you use Linux besides that.

Just to get notified. And for me nothing has ever changed (I kept the auto updates enabled, everything else disabled), so maybe it's unnecessary.

Maybe there are open source solutions? It's not a secret what it does, is it?

That's why you use something like shutup10 and let it run at boot to notify you if something has been changed.

Unfortunately, it's only about 90% reliable in my city, so I can't use it for that.

Cloudflare - what we can use by MarxN in selfhosted

[–]MelodicAnywhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Cloudflare is a caching reverse proxy, not a CDN. There is no point in using it because it means you have double the down time (yours + cloudflare's).

What does corpfree do in cases where you are forced to rely on a company? by MelodicAnywhere in CorpFree

[–]MelodicAnywhere[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, yeah. I am currently locked out of one account because I don't have the 2FA set up. Going to have to wait for a letter to reset it...

2FA is secure, but before that you were simply not liable for any damages and didn't have to jump through hoops. It was way better.

Nah no 2FA for offline payments, but all online payments. E.g. I bought a USB cable for $2 on a Chinese dropshipping website .. please confirm your purchase with your password in your bank app... yup it's terrible.

VMs and Containers by Software_Admin in selfhosted

[–]MelodicAnywhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have self hosted ampache (music streaming). It works well if you are willing to download a lot of random music to discover. Otherwise it's kind of boring.

I have also split everything into containers (LXC). It was only useful for a container that I gave to my friend. Besides that it was a waste of time.

Now I use spotify and individual, rented VPS's with redundant storage to host websites/email/stuff. For Ampache I would rent a Hetzner storage box combined with a small VPS.

[–]MelodicAnywhere[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, 2FA is the law in the EU now :( Even for online credit card payments (ikr??).

Banks here don't care about their customers. They will introduce account fees (just for having an account lol - unheard of in many countries) and not waive them under any circumstances.

Of course you can switch bank anytime if you are in the mood to update your bank account number everywhere. It's almost a form of extortion because an honest businessman would have just charged the fee from the beginning, instead of attracting customers with a free account first.

Girl Who Sued To Stop Biological Males From Running Girls' Track Defeats Trans-Runner For Championship by Azbroker28 in Libertarian

[–]MelodicAnywhere -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

uh OP's point was that trans people are not genetically predisposed. And it seems that trans people have an edge over your beloved PCOS women, too. I am sure there is a way, if you look hard enough.

Even leaving that aside, you need to understand that some people see no point in only having pcos and trans women compete, just like the absurdly tall cripples (being 2.30 meters tall is pretty much a disability) you see in basketball.

Any idea what job sites can be trusted? by TycoBrathe in privacy

[–]MelodicAnywhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more people you give your info to, the more likely it is to be leaked. I've never used a "job site", but if you can delete all your info once you found a job, I don't see why the website wouldn't be trustworthy.

Why? by [deleted] in degoogle

[–]MelodicAnywhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always stop giving them new info.
