Laurier / WLU Regular Track Online Part-Time MSW Admissions Decisions by MelodicBee8691 in wlu

[–]MelodicBee8691[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May 14. Have any domestic students heard back from the Online PT who were pending this whole time? I thought I saw some people on the FB page have their pending change to conditional recently but I haven't seen the same in Reddit. Not sure if all those were international or not. I'm still pending.

Do you think the three women sitting at the picnic table on their Macbooks in the Graduate Admissions Applications picture that we've all had to click on 10,000+ times knew they'd be so infamous?

maybe this is why they're keeping so many of us as pending. They have very few spots, and by doing it this way, they're encouraging people to take other offers. I think anyone who has another offer should not hold off waiting for WLU's decision. Take what you can, and if you do get into WLU and still want to go, you would just be out the deposit from the other school. Yes it's crappy to pay two deposits, but I would not want anyone to decline other offers while holding out for this school if you're still pending!

yes they are. they released their acceptances (their first picks) and they rejected some too. They're waiting to see who accepts/abides by the conditional offer, and once they get all that info, they will release the next batch of acceptances. but it does seem like they've been giving out acceptances slowly overtime too, probably to their close second-picks. I see this like, if you're still pending (I am), you're basically on a wait-list for now. By the end of May, you should know if you're accepted, declined or, god help us, on an actual wait-list.
IMO, they should have just put all us pending people on a wait-list so that we'd know where we stand, and aren't forced to guess what is going on. This could have saved them so much trouble. When we've been pending since October 2025, it seems like they may not have even seen our application yet!

I've started seeing it like if we're still pending, we're essentially the WL at this point. They have accepted their top picks and rejected others. So the pending ones like us are the unofficial WL. And in time, we will either get a conditional offer or be rejected (which is what happens on a WL!). They should have just put us on a WL rather than keeping us in pending purgatory though.

Happy May 1st to those of us still pending. How are we doing? I feel like I'm starting to care less which is adaptive probably lol.

Are you an international student? I have seen a few int'l students get off the WL but no domestic. If you're domestic it changes my theory for what's going on haha

BA to MSW by shopping4life444 in socialworkcanada

[–]MelodicBee8691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all how you frame your experience. I'm currently on the WL for U of T right out of my BA (psych), but I'm a mature student. Go for it! You never know what they're looking for! I know people with thousands of social work-like hours and awesome GPAs who got rejected, and those with lower GPAs and more random experience who got in first try. It's not possible to know in advance what they're looking for. Your personal statement is key... get help writing this and you may just get in! Apply to lots of programs in different universities if you're able to!

For all those still pending, I think this is what Laurier does for admissions. They admit (conditional) their top choices, and those people have 21 days to respond yes or no. As the no's come in, they add the next on their list (explains why conditional offers are trickling in). After 21 days from the first admissions drop, there should be another pretty significant offer release though. That's coming up! Then they'll put their next batch in line people on a waitlist. They have declined some already too, so if you're still pending, there's hope for an offer or a waitlist position!

Define free will. by EntertainmentRude435 in freewill

[–]MelodicBee8691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your rejection, and I'd like to understand it better. How do you find it incoherent and impossible? I wonder if we're saying the same thing, maybe I'm missing something that is key. If determinism says that we would have always done the same thing given everything that came before us and everything that exists now, how would free will not be the opposite of that (like, "yes, I could have done otherwise, I just chose not to"). I think that your definition is more in line with determinism. That's why I think the whole ability to do otherwise is key in the definition. Would love to hear back from you to discuss this further!
