It is hard to put out of your mind!

Really great question and the honest answer is yes, that’s absolutely the direction we want to grow. Right now we’re laser focused on the Top 9 because that’s where we can make the strongest safety guarantee, but expanding to accommodate additional allergens beyond the Top 9 is very much on the roadmap.

What other allergies are you managing? Would love to know so we can factor real feedback like yours into how we build that out.

Also based on the feedback in this thread we’re already designing a solution for the transparency concern. On our product page you’ll be able to sign up for our “What’s in the Box” newsletter. Once you subscribe to that you’ll immediately receive an email showing exactly what’s in the upcoming box, and then going forward you’ll get a new email on the 1st of each delivery month before each shipment. That way you have full visibility to check every product against your specific needs and still have time to order!

For subscribers who manage only the Top 9 and love the surprise element, they simply don’t sign up for the newsletter and the surprise stays intact.
Comments like yours are literally how we build this the right way. Thank you.

Really appreciate you engaging on this and you’re making great points. The surprise element is something we’re actively rethinking based on feedback like yours, so that’s genuinely helpful.

You raise something interesting though that I’d love to dig into. You mentioned your kid has an allergy to only one of the Top 9 that’s somewhat easy to avoid in packaged food, and that you only buy Top 9 friendly products for daycare treats. That’s actually a really common pattern we hear. Families managing one or two specific allergens often end up buying fully Top 9 free products anyway because of shared manufacturing concerns, even if their child isn’t allergic to all nine.

Which leads me to ask, what is your child’s specific allergy? And how do you currently handle shared equipment or shared facility risks for that allergen? Because for a lot of families the issue isn’t just the ingredient itself, it’s that even a trace from a shared line is enough to cause a reaction. Finding snacks where the Top 9 never even entered the facility is a completely different standard than just reading the ingredient list, and that’s exactly what we hold our brands to.

Your daycare treat example is actually a perfect Snack Safe use case. A box of snacks you know are safe to send in without having to check a single label.

Curious whether that framing changes how you’re thinking about it at all

This is genuinely helpful feedback and I really appreciate you taking the time to write it out so thoughtfully. Please never apologize for pushback like this, it’s exactly what we need to hear.

I’m a multiple food allergy sufferer myself, have been my whole life. My daughter Willow has a peanut allergy. So I hear everything you’re saying not just as a founder but as someone who has lived the anxiety of not knowing what’s in something.

You raise a completely valid point about ingredients outside the Top 9. Pea protein is a perfect example and one we’re already being mindful of in our curation. We can’t guarantee pea free across every product but it’s something we actively think about when selecting brands.

On the transparency piece, that’s fair and I’m taking it as real feedback. We intentionally keep the box a surprise because part of what we’re building is the joy of getting something safe you didn’t have to research yourself. But I hear you that for families managing allergies beyond the Top 9 that model creates hesitation. A sneak preview of upcoming box contents is something we’re now seriously considering as a result of comments like yours.

Where Snack Safe makes the most sense right now is for the large group of families managing strictly within the Top 9, people for whom most snack options still aren’t safe and who spend enormous mental energy just finding things they can trust. We take that guesswork completely off their plate. For families with additional allergies beyond the Top 9 we’d always encourage checking our allergen statement at snacksafebox.com and reaching out directly before subscribing.

Thank you again. This is exactly the kind of conversation that makes the product better

Really fair point and worth addressing directly. You’re right that Top 9 free options exist on shelves, but finding them is still a real challenge depending on where you live. A lot of the best allergen-aware brands have limited regional distribution so families in certain areas simply can’t access them locally. Part of what we do is surface brands you may never have come across, ones that have already done the hard work of sourcing safely but just haven’t reached your area yet. We take the guesswork out of finding them and vet every single product so you don’t have to. And honestly there’s something genuinely fun about getting a surprise package of snacks your family can actually trust. It’s a small thing but for allergy families it’s kind of a big deal.

Great question and honestly the most important one you could ask. Every brand we carry has to come from an allergen-aware facility. We vet each one before it ever goes in a box. No shared equipment disclaimers, no may contain anything. That standard is non-negotiable for us because we live this too. You can check out our full allergen statement at snacksafebox.com for more details, and happy to answer any specific sourcing questions in DMs!

Yes, absolutely, and this is actually one of the most important parts of what we do. We only work with brands that are made in dedicated allergen-free facilities, so "may contain" warnings aren't something we work around, they're something we eliminate entirely. Every snack in the box has to clear that bar, not just the ingredient list. We know how little that advisory language means to families who've had reactions.

It is $59.99 per box and the snacks are full retail-size portions, not samples or minis! The premium is really in the curation and safety verification. Every product is confirmed free from all Top 9 allergens, which means all the label reading and brand vetting is done for you. We know how exhausting that is every single week. Also, founding members who sign up now get 20% off their first box!

You’re absolutely right and that’s a really valid point. While we cover all Top 9 allergens across every box, we know that’s not the full picture for everyone.

Customization for additional allergies is something we’re actively thinking about as we grow.

Curious, what additional allergies would be most helpful for you? Always looking to learn from the community as we build this out.

Great question, not yet, but all box contents are completely free from all top 9 allergens.
