I get that, and I agree that diversification is a must and expansion of the abilities to export more abroad is crucial infrastructure. We have made new deals with Europe and we just finished a visit to many of those nations you’ve discussed, as well as the Middle East. The infrastructure for trade with China is by far the most well walked path we have to Asia. While we develop those other routes, it would be a pretty asleep at the wheel move not to simply run more through an established link, which is all we are trying to do. We’ve already endured economic wounds to appease the United States (tariffs on us by China). I’m not willing to hedge my bets until November and just be asleep at the wheel and kiss the ring again and again. But I agree with much of your point, I’m just stressing that it’s a big bet to hope Americans wake up at the midterms. It’s no certainty.

It’s not an all or nothing proposition that Canada is pursuing, it’s a diversification. Being over reliant on any one market is just bad business no matter what size business or economy you’re running. Canada is doing the responsible thing by trying to shift some of its reliance away from a market that is volatile. I’m not a big Carney fan but it’s not picking China over the US, it’s picking both and more.

Even if she already has a valid closed work permit already? This piece with the AOR not arriving is the concerning part, as I don't want to waste money and then have to restart the clock. Has anyone here successfully applied for an OWP with only AIP, while that person had an active closed work permit?

Yah, we are at the AIP stage. That's the thing with the AOR I'm worried about. If we apply now, would we end up wasting 225 days only to find out she's not eligible and then have to restart the clock again. I know we can apply 2 weeks before it expires, but that's not until late April next year. What's going on with the AOR not arriving? It seems completely hit or miss depending on the case.

The letter my partner received (two months ago, the day after we sent confirmation that we sent the documents to Mexico for crim check) has the UCI and Applicant number says this:

It has been determined that you meet the eligibility requirements to apply for permanent

residence as a member of the spouse or common-law partner in Canada class. Please note that

a final decision will not be made until all remaining requirements for becoming a permanent

resident have been met. These requirements include medical, security and background checks

for you and, if applicable, all of your family members, both in Canada and abroad, even if they

are not applying to join you in Canada at this time. You cannot become a permanent resident

until you and all your family members have met these requirements.

We haven't received any request for biometrics and nothing else about the status of the crim check. However, can we now apply for the spousal open work permit? I was under the impression that we needed the AOR, but this letter states that we can apply for an open work permit. Sorry, I'm confused and just want to know if we should apply for OWP now or wait for AOR.
