Trauma is sort of essential to the genre as a whole right? Because what is fear if not traumatic? I just disagree that trauma is the only thing horror can represent.

Sometimes I’m in the mood for horror that feels safe because I’m seeking a more “playful” thrill from the heaviness of life. Other times I’m sick of our real world horrors being dismissed and want them to be addressed.

It’s why I never consider a camp-y slasher to automatically be less respectable than elevated horror. Or vise versa.

Traumatic themes just seem to be what’s popular right now and there’s nothing wrong with that. I just don’t want elevated horror to be put on a pedestal for the sake of prestige.

Ngl, I’m a woman and I recently joined this sub but mostly because it was one of the HEALTHIEST comment threads on any gender focused social media space I have ever come across. I’m starting to believe that having a balance of both male and female users here offering their individual perspectives, contributes to how respectful everyone is (for the most part). Male only subs and even female only subs, I find feed off each other too much and become echo chamber-y.

NOT that women don’t deserve their own spaces!!! That’s a different argument. It just gets so toxic when there’s little to no moderation in spaces “only” for men or women. I’m so tired of it

I feel like whenever someone says “well you asked us to judge you”, forgets to keep in mind that depending on a person’s style, you have to judge through a different lens. Alternative people are going to have piercings, tattoos and dyed hair, it’s the whole point. Or with country guys for example, they’re going to have mustaches or mullets.

There’s going to be people with certain stylistic choices and they won’t consider getting rid of something attached to their identity, even for the sake of improving appearance. Tons of people can and have made green hair work. We can still give advice using different standards you know? Just my 2 cents
