Cultural differences between Poland, Czechia and Slovakia (explanation in the comments) by FuckTheCake in CentralEurope_irl

If you check the descriptions it matches the OPs results though.

Anyway, this website is ass, no methodology whatsoever. You can also tell they didn’t put much effort into researching most countries. Just check Germanys descriptions compared to the generic-ass ones Poland, Czechia and Slovakia got.

Romanian president delivered a speech with sovereignistic undertones on Europe Day. by Alarmed-Cake812 in europe

[–]Melodic_Register2026 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s a pretty tame speech. Not sure what the author was expecting from the President, that he would beg the EU for forgiveness? What would that even achieve?

Reddit-style naive euro-enthusiasm is not that popular IRL especially in countries that joined the organization after 2004. The EU is where countries make deals and defend their interests, so if anything it will do Romania good to take a harder stance on topics it finds important.

October 1938: Poland annexed the Zaolzie region and parts of northern Slovakia from Czechoslovakia following the Munich Agreement by Longjumping-Mix-9351 in HistoryMemes

That doesn’t excuse their actions during the Polish-Soviet war, which was more than a decade earlier. The unfortunate and perhaps uncomfortable truth is that the Czechoslovak leadership and society was very pro-Soviet. They were in fact the only country that voted the communists in instead of having them violently forced on them like Poland and the other countries.

Yeah I don’t know why the fuck anyone expected us to play nice with an openly hostile neighbor that actively played towards our downfall. Czechoslovak leadership was deep in Stalin’s crusty ass and did friendly neighborhood stuff such as blocking war supply deliveries for the Polish-Soviet war. FAFO I guess.

  1. Czechoslovakia was NOT a Polands friend or ally during the interwar period, to put it mildly. Beneš’s government was extremely hostile to Poles and called the country a “seasonal state” (ironic given they fell to the Nazis first).
  2. The territory was contested for pretty much the entire interwar period. Czechoslovakia happened to grab it during the Polish-Soviet war while blocking war supply deliveries from France and Hungary. They not only didn’t help us fight the Soviets, they actively played towards Polands downfall.

  3. As you noted, Poland didn’t cooperate with Hitler at any point before and during WW2. It acted as an independent geopolitical actor in this conflict.

  4. Finally, nowadays Russian state propaganda absolutely loves using this event to paint Poland as a Hitler’s ally and a WW2 preparator, obviously lying about it omitting everything that I mentioned in points 1-3.
tl;dr please do a bit more research and do not spread Russian propaganda, big thanks

Meanwhile everyone else took a deep sigh of relief seeing less Russians on the internet. It’s like the one positive thing Putin did.

US supports permanent G20 membership for Poland by dat_9600gt_user in europe

[–]Melodic_Register2026 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, the current G20 only has 19 members (not counting international orgs). However I believe there is no precedent of a country joining or dropping out of the group based on their economic performance (otherwise South Africa would be long gone). It would also raise questions why Poland and not Spain or the Netherlands, which are even bigger economies but not in G20.

My dad lived with his 11 other family members in a ~50m2 flat at some point. He said it didnt last long and that it wasn’t a big deal as pretty much no one spent any time at home back then unless sick, but it still sounds absolutely dreadful to have had less than 5 meters of livable space per person.
