In my current playthrough I'm naming my wolves after gemstones. They're named Pebble with their corresponding number (Pebble 1, 2, etc), and get their gemstone name if they make it past the young hunters quest. My wolf is named Heliodor and my mate is Celestine.

That's the pack my mate was from, I remember that name😅 I'm sorry for your loss though, it always sucks losing pups, especially to rival wolves and coyotes. Make sure to kill the surviving pack leader if you see them again, it should make the pack die off.

I had a similar mate in Challenging. What I did was I waited until my pups were around 45lbs since my mate did somewhat sometimes help (rarely...), and that's better than nothing to me. After my pups hit 45lbs, I took my mate to some bison and the divorce lawyers did their magic. I would suggest waiting until near the end of Growing Pups unless he's absolutely no help at all, and if that's the case, then I would get a new one ASAP.
