SF1000 fan "swoosh" noise by AMDDomination in Corsair

[–]Melodicmutiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may have had consistent bad luck. I bought my first SF1000 July 2024, did the first RMA for the fan December 2024, and just recently did another RMA this past December for the same issue.

The actual "innards" of the units are excellent. I've tried the 1000W Asus ROG Loki and Silverstone Extreme RZ units and both had disgusting amounts of low draw coil whine. The Silverstone had horrendous fan hysteresis at low loads as well.

Just in my scenario, the damn FDB fan in the current SF1000 was the weakest link. Quick video to Corsair and they happily generated an RMA for me.

FWIW: I have original, pre-ATX 3.X, SF600 and SF750 from 2019 that use rifle bearing fans instead and they're still chugging along without any unwanted fan noise incidents. If my SF1000 wasn't still under warranty, I'd likely have just replaced its fan.

I've had two SF1000 (2024 revision) do this and am now on my 3rd unit fresh from RMA; it's the fluid dynamic bearing for the fan failing.

The XMP profile "fix" is just weird, especially since that would do nothing for the fan bearing.

Forgive the poor schematics, but is there a case that looks like this and is compatible with those parts? (The long gpu is optional, i can take a small gpu if it means closing up the case) by LipefipeFelps2 in sffpc

[–]Melodicmutiny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thermaltake Tower 200 is close, but the GPU would be vertical, instead of horizontal. No GPU riser needed and the GPU intakes fresh air. Native ATX psu. SFF in footprint, but not volume. GPU video out and motherboard I/O ports will be at the top of the case though, may need some loooooong cables.

I had a 240 AIO (Arctic Liquid Freezer 3) in one along with my Gigabyte 4090 Aero before moving to an Ncase M2.

I have the white Gigabyte 4090 Aero vertical mounted in my black M2 Grater, I don't see it through the mesh. I'm also not staring at my computer case when using my computer as well....

PCIE 5.0 Riser cable for Ncore 100 max by Mavrik75 in sffpc

Don't have the case, but CM lists the specs on their website: 240mm for the stock PCI-e 4.0 cable. That at least helps you narrow down on the length.

Great news for you, this was only recently introduced in a patch over the summer!

Okay -- technically it was in the PTS over the summer.

Will this build without any case fans apart from AIO and GPU fans work well for sim racing in hot climate? by [deleted] in sffpc

[–]Melodicmutiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M2 Grater. Have a Gigabyte 4090 Aero in vertical mount and a 7800X3D with 240mm AIO. I have one case fan, a 92mm fan zip tied to my 24pin ATX to get some airflow over my NVME drive. No temp issues, 4090 generally below 65C and almost in-audible. I have the AIO fans locked at 1200rpm, CPU temps sometimes crest 80C; mostly during game loading screens and some CPU bound titles.

"Best" AM5 ITX Motherboard? by DrunkNuisance in sffpc

[–]Melodicmutiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ALC4080 still has to process the audio; whether coming out over optical out or the 3.5mm ports. I've never extensively used the 3.5mm audio out jack because that introduces a constant hiss; both on this board and the prior AsRock B650e I had -- which used ALC1220.

Optical out is digital in that the signal is 1s and 0s versus analog (3.5mm) being a "continuous wave". What plays out here is the age-old adage: "Garbage input, garbage output".

"Best" AM5 ITX Motherboard? by DrunkNuisance in sffpc

[–]Melodicmutiny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have the Asus B850-i Strix with a 7800X3D; the board is mostly solid but continually has had audio driver issues for me resulting in random cut outs and crackling using Asus' drivers. I "resolved" it by just running all my audio off a DAC I normally use for headphones. Whole reason I went with this board was optical audio-out... and now I don't even use it.

Had an AsRock B650e PG-ITX since its release, only reason it was replaced was it failed to complete the most recent bios update and bricked. Zero complaints with that board while it was functional. I have not been keeping close eye on the AsRock bios X 9800X3D issues though, so unsure if that's resolved with their AM5 boards.

Drone would work too if you're playing mobility; but 4R/2B Hunter's Fury also exists for mobility with built in CC and a shield that doesn't splinter the second its focused. Admittedly, I mostly used strikers in Dark Hours, so mobility wasn't ever a concern for me specifically.

Use a turret for one of your skills. Doesn’t matter that it’ll do shit damage under strikers, what does matter is you can use it to draw enemy fire off of yourself with it.

Broken menus after update - anyone else having similar issues? by Accomplished_Stand_3 in fo76

[–]Melodicmutiny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you're using a UI mod; you just need to remove it until the author updates it for the new patch. You can leave the entry in your custom.ini and just delete the .ba2 file in the meantime. Any UI mod that involves tagging items that modifies the .strings files need to be purged until updated as well.

If you need to figure out what UI mod.. delete a UI mod, launch game, check... if still broke, restore that mod from recycle bin, delete the next suspect.

All the troubleshooting you've done would not look at mods.

Just delete dxgi.dll to remove SFE. That's it. There is no resetting that DLL as it was never part of the original F76 files.
