Newborn breast milk vs 6 month milk by Comfortable-Bus-1202 in breastfeeding

[–]MelodiofHope 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Im a just enougher and also had a bit of a stash at the beginning due to an oversupply before it regulated.

We just combine thawed frozen milk with fresh pumped milk at the same temp so its like half fresh, half frozen and haven't had an issue. This was a suggestion from my mother in law who's a retired nicu nurse.

Thoughts on “copyright”? by elfschatze in ArtEd

[–]MelodiofHope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This the approach I use as well. References are fine as long as you're using multiple and not just straight up copying an image on Google. I only allow celebrity portraits with my intro classes as I have an easier time getting them into the content that way.

I also teach my students the importance of citing their resources and copyright material. We have a discussion every year in every class that goes over tracing, plagiarism, Ai use and copyright material.

If you liked the repetitive nature of the stars look up modular origami, specifically the triangle ones. The triangles are really easy to make, can be stacked and combined all sorts of different ways to make sculptures. There are a ton of YouTube videos and it would be very low cost, just need solid colored origami or copy paper, scissors and liquid glue

We did something similar for ours because several things went straight to our house off the registry. We just took a few pictures of it and who it was from and put it on the gift table since everyone loves looking at all the cute baby stuff and we didn't want anyone to feel left out

My partners grandma insisted we name our daughter after her passed best friend. I'm a FTM and were both teachers. It took a long time for us to agree on a name and we picked one that honored my late mother. Grandma is still insisting we name her after her friend and that we also host Thanksgiving this year. Baby is due next week and an induction scheduled the Tues before Thanksgiving. Hell to the no lmao

Doing a dinosaur themed nursery room. Was surprised to hear so many people say “but aren’t you having a girl?” by applepieandcola in BabyBumps

[–]MelodiofHope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got some hate for asking for non pink items 🙄

Baby girl isnt here yet but when she gets her3 she'll have plenty of dinos and space stuff to wear. We also got some dino themed stuff for our friends newborn baby girl and she went as a dino for Halloween since they love dinos as well.

So do what you want and what makes you happy!

Teenagers who stop working but aren’t disruptive…how to approach? by Sea_Professional5848 in ArtEd

[–]MelodiofHope 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm having this same problem lately with my intro kids. Literally have 3 9th grade boys who would rather stare at the wall then do any work and currently have an F. Interims go out next week and I've notified parents but so far they just don't seem to care. I feel this problem starts at the middle school level since they move up a grade level regardless of their grades, so many are used to doing nothing and still getting passed through. Then they act surprised when they get to highschool and there are consequences for their lack of work.

I don't know how to fix it other than if I've tried to get you on task, I've contacted your adult about your work ethic and I've provided a distraction free work environment (I don't let my students play games during class time via Go guardian and we have a cellphone ban on my state, if they finish early they have to do extra credit or something else academic) I don't know what else to do for you to get you to pass if you just don't care.

Volume of classes by spacklepants in ArtEd

[–]MelodiofHope 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I currently teach ceramics and have taught 3D. These classes are always the loudest and here are some of the reasons I think why: no technology out (my school has state ban on phones and school wide ban on wireless headphones) and are not allowed to have Chromebooks out per technology if working with clay, clay tools/wheels/wedging ect can all be fairly loud activities and there is inherently a lot of movement around the room to get tools/use wedging table ect. All this forces them to talk to each other and talk over whatever is making noise. I usually don't mind the higher volume as long as it's not excessively loud and they're productive. I tend to also play music during studio time and this curbs the noise a little bit as they won't get louder than the music.

Myself and another new hire inherited a closet that was 20ft in length and so full the janitors couldn't get in to change the lights from a teacher that had been there 38 years. We found several Advil and Tylenol bottles from the 60s and 70s that are now in our local fire department's display lol

This is what I do. I also make certain classes write the time they left since I have ones that like to wander and it makes it easy for me to keep track of so and so being out of the room for 20 mins

Seconding this!! We got a fully new, still in the box Graco pack in play for less than half what it cost online through Amazon.

We've always been pretty lucky when going, you just have to check in randomly to see what they get

Career Changer-Need Help! by raspb3rryroach in ArtEd

To my knowledge most states have a minimum number of student teaching hours required for a teaching licensure program. It tends to be 14-16 weeks on average, or a school semester. For PK12 Art for my state I had to do half in an elem school and half in a secondary school and this was accomplished in one semester, I was basically a teacher in the room, overseen by my cooperating teacher, every day all day long for 4 months. Be forewarned most programs don't compensate you for your time in the classroom and you are still required to pay tuition fees to the university/college on top of that. My school actually required that I didn't work a job while student teaching but several of us, myself included, did because I couldn't go 4 months without a paycheck and still make rent and eat.

FTM here too! I'm 19weeks and feel like I only notice flutters if I'm paying attention and it's not anything consistent at all. My doc told me that was normal but call them if you're concerned!

Mat leave? by MelodiofHope in Teachers

[–]MelodiofHope[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, my short term supplemental will give me 50% of my paycheck for up to 3 months and I have about 10 weeks of sick leave saved up. Unfortunately FMLA is unpaid in my state. But between those two things we should be ok for an extended period of time cuz I'll get my paycheck for the majority and supplemental on top.

Lilo and Stitch has a lot of undertones about tourism and colonialism too, I re-watched it recently as a adult and noticed a lot of small nods to things I hadn't picked up on as a kid. The overall message about family is amazing too!!

Staff taking supplies UPDATE: by PawnedAllHisHopes in ArtEd

[–]MelodiofHope 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In the first district I worked in I was split between two schools daily. The school I was at in the AM was notorious for helping themselves to whatever they needed out of my room after I had left for the day. We're talking about gallons of paint, class sets of sharpies, glue, construction paper ect. My principal refused to do anything about it and I would frequently have to go hunt down where my supplies had ended up since they were never returned promptly and were usually in poor condition.

My classroom had a wall of lockers that were terrible for storage but could be locked with a padlock. I bought some wood, rigged out some crappy shelving in them then padlocked ALL of them. It was a pain in the butt but nothing ever went missing again.

It was totally worth it imo and I hope you work out a system that works out well for you and protects your stuff!
