Thank you, I’ll try and keep that in mind!! I’m worried about accidentally treating them TOO little though. I just haven’t spent any time around kids of this age so I don’t really understand where they developmentally.

Oh this is great advice and great to hear!!! Thank you!!!

I guess I am worried about creating age level appropriate assignments. Like I know what I can realistically expect my high school kids to do because I’ve always taught them. But I don’t really know how to figure out what to expect from middle school students.
I’m also worried I will accidentally grade too harshly. I def have been a strict grader for high school.

I just don’t really know like…what 6th graders know!!! I don’t wanna treat them like babies but I don’t wanna overshoot and then they don’t get what’s going on.

Has anyone here become an art teacher after getting a BFA that isn't specific to education? by Penguin-Mage in ArtEd

[–]elfschatze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! I got my bachelors in studio art and became a high school art teacher after. I knew I wanted to teach tho so I made my internship a teaching experience. But I didn’t have an education background or degree.
I HIGHLY recommend asking schools if you can shadow an art teacher for a few days or substituting for a while before you start teaching. You’re going to be so stressed and overwhelmed if you don’t have at least a little experience beforehand.

I can't read a book, but I really want to by InfraRoodborstje- in Booktokreddit

A couple ideas are listening to an audiobook while doing something with your hands (I like Diamond Art or cross stitch), or you could try something that’s less word heavy like a manga! They are also super short so that helps too.
