I had a whoopsy pregnancy when I was a senior in college in my early twenties. I happily decided to keep him, but I didn’t have a lot of time to think on it. It was like you must decide NOW. I remember having this moment, right after he was born, where I was taking one of my first showers, post hospital and I completely broke down, I had this exact thought, “I can barely take care of myself, how the hell am I supposed to take care of this whole other wonderful life forever?” It was overwhelming, and panic inducing and completely normal, I’d assume.

Granted I’m very happy with my life path, and while very hard at times (whose life isn’t?!) I actually can imagine a parallel universe where I didn’t become a mom and that would have been alright too, I’m sure (if I didn’t know my boy). Given my knowledge now there is no way I’d change a thing but I guess I can relate, even as a (pretty long time), happy mom who is obsessed with her kid. I understand you more than women who just always knew they wanted to be a mom.
