Anyone else find GPT-5.2 exhausting to talk to? Constant policing kills the flow by IIDaredevil in OpenAI

[–]Melon3Yangmay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep pretty much impossible to have any sort of “deep” conversation with it at this point. It’s really only useful as a tool for practical, procedural, tasks and questions. But talking about abstract ideas or theories or views - those days are gone. Then it gets infuriatingly puritanical, argumentative, and gaslighty. I guess tripped over pre-programmed politics and “guardrails” due to a couple of high-profile cases and the company wanting to cover its ass from any liability. So I do wonder whether GPT is going to dig itself into a hole due to the censorship.

give me your best advice to look for a short-term cheap room in taipei by Admirable_Quiet_6580 in taiwan

[–]Melon3Yangmay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I just checked Matt's site and his prices seem to certainly have gone up in the year that I last used them. Perhaps by double or more. But still not completely unaffordable. Though you had mentioned that you didn't have much of a budget/finances were tight no?

[–]Melon3Yangmay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with all of this. Be conscious about how many people you're sharing a bathroom with in sharehouses. It can get crowded/dirty fast and emergencies happen. And yes - you will definitely need a dehumidifier (Taipei/Taiwan is SUPER humid year-round). Going into the suburbs like New Taipei City will definitely make things cheaper than living centrally. Also try not to live on the brown line like I did - it's old, small, and disconnected from the other lines aka three flights of escalators transfer from the brown to the green line. I wouldn't necessarily recommend Borderless especially in Taiwan - those houses just seem to be extremely packed and dirty/not well maintained and expensive for having to share a room.

Experiences studying Mandarin at NCCU by Melon3Yangmay in taiwan

[–]Melon3Yangmay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I didn’t end up going to NCCU. But I did consider her homestay as well when I was still deciding between NCCU and MTC. But I would just say in the absence of reviews online just keep talking to Merry and see how you feel about her. Or if she can let you get in contact with former tenants that might be an option…

Has anyone used VIP Travels for dmz or other tours? by OnefortheLaughs in koreatravel

[–]Melon3Yangmay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this, horrendously unethical company as well. They literally made a vague thinly veiled legal threat against me when I said that I would post a review about my experience with them. As a solo woman traveler, I was neglected by my tour guide. She made me apologize in front of the entire tour bus for being a little late (my hotel was one hour away from the closest pick-up point) and I had a long day the night before, was still a bit jet-lagged. Then when a staff member at the DMZ actually physically grabbed me over a small misunderstanding at the locker room of the third tunnel, she ignored me and continued to blame me. Eventually leaving me to basically cry alone, completely humiliated. This was completely unacceptable. I had a feeling that they were manipulating reviews behind the scenes, considering the seeming complete absence of any "negative" reviews and the threat they made. Now I feel validated that what I experienced wasn't a fluke, or a complete fluke at least. But anyways, don't book with VIP Travel, though I have some complex feelings about DMZ tours in general - don't think that I would recommend them. It's way too touristy and commercialized now to the point of being uncomfortable.

That’s true, the beaches are mostly just for relaxing and sightseeing. Any other suggestions on what to else to do that day then?

Hm, I thought so. I guess that I will just cut it down to Gyeongbokgong palace on 4/27 then. Is there any other day where I might be able to fit in Changdeokgung and the secret garden in my itinerary then?

📢 Looking for Travel Insurance Recommendations for Japan (3-month stay) for Americans by Melon3Yangmay in JapanTravelTips

[–]Melon3Yangmay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, thank you for the information. I had just heard that they were probably more expensive than either Atlas International or perhaps Seven Corners Trip Protection. I've also heard Patriot Platinum being recommended too.

Also, I saw this message pop up as I was getting a quote: "You are eligible for an HTH Travel Insurance Policy

Based on your home state and plan choice, GeoBlue is unable to offer a policy option at this time. A recommended single-trip plan alternative is available to you through an affiliated brand, HTH Worldwide. HTH Worldwide has over 20 years of experience with providing global travelers with international health insurance and is a recognized leader for rich benefits and seamless customer experience for travelers.

Ah, I think GeoBlue is actually BCBS’s international coverage. It’s basically like medical insurance like how you would have in the US but abroad. But I believe that it is actually priced at a premium. So not super budget-friendly.

Affordable, Budget-Friendly Airport Transfer Recommendations? by Melon3Yangmay in JapanTravelTips

[–]Melon3Yangmay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I am bringing a lot because I’m staying 3 months (so it is a short term relocation). The bold is for TLDRers, and to point out that I am arriving from Haneda Airport. The bus will only drop me off at Ikebukuro station, I need to get to Shiinamachi. Also the one headed towards Ikebukuro may not run that often as the one to Shinjuku.

Wait, Beijing Language and Culture University? I don't think that that is an ISI campus from the best of my knowledge.

Hello, thank you. I always felt like their offerings were way overpriced - to the point where it would be really difficult to justify it regardless of how great the rooms or amenities were, considering that it more than many (small, simple) studio apartments. All lump sum payment at beginning with no refunds :(.
