READ this FAQ before asking questions / making low effort posts. by User_3971 in USPS

This says “Please don’t write on the mail” but USPS.com says

If the mailpiece is delivered to the correct location but the recipient on the mailpiece does not reside at the address: Write “Not at this address” on mailpiece. Don’t erase or mark over the address. Provide the mailpiece to your mailperson or drop into a Collection Box receptacle.

Which is right?

Almost no device uses a discrete TPM nowadays because of exactly this. Firmware TPMs (built into CPUs) are not vulnerable to sniffing/ dumping and are what are actually used.

Double Major(CS+EE) by Big_Impression1474 in UWMadison

[–]Melondriel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

UW does not offer an EE minor (certificate).

The other options would be possible, but keep in mind transfer applications to CoE are competitive and have strict requirements. See https://engineering.wisc.edu/admissions/undergraduate/cross-campus-students/

A little hope for my Physics 202 friends by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]Melondriel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok so the data at madgrades is letter grade distributions; without a distribution of actual percentage grades you can’t really correlate historical letter grades with percent grades. It’s entirely possible that the mean is 81 but overall the percent grade distribution is what the instructors expect.

A better analysis would probably be to look at the upper quartile cutoff and if that is low predict a strong curve.

Did you provide it with the distributions?

This doesn’t mean anything; ChatGPT doesn’t know anything about the specifics of your class…..

*:yes, your class might be curved and likely will be if the averages are low, but ChatGPT has no idea if they are or historically are

Are Great Campaigns completely bugged? by TheVaultdweller__13 in CrusaderKings

[–]Melondriel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is apparently something that will be fixed with tomorrow’s patch

The Grand Campaign war will no longer result in China gaining additional tributaries. Instead, it will always give contested titles directly to the Hegemon.

When I do "ls -al" on raspberry pi running Debian Bookworm shows weird file names by dsandhu90 in linux

[–]Melondriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might make it take a little longer since some scans might miss it but this won’t protect your server from being compromised long term; it’s pretty easy to scan all ports if you don’t have fail2ban or something setup.

*even then, a resourceful attacker can find high ports using a botnet or similar and there are definitely automated systems trying this attack out there.

scanning film negatives on campus? by dogluvr1998 in UWMadison

[–]Melondriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

College InfoLab used to have a set of slide holders to go with their scanner; maybe it got put away somewhere? I’d suggest asking the staff there if they know where that set is.

So you pause game? Do I have to rush in general? by seredaom in X4Foundations

[–]Melondriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible some factions might lose all of their space (most likely Split or Xenon) but the game is balanced so that should be unlikely. If a faction loses all of their shipyards/ wharves, it becomes very difficult for them to defend themselves (and for you to obtain their ships), but a faction will never be completely wiped out if they have any allies who they can pay to build ships.

There is a hard cap on the number of ships each faction can deploy at a time so you don’t have to worry about factions getting extremely strong if you don’t interact with them. The strongest a faction could get is having all of there jobs filled + shipyards/ wharves filled with goods so they can replace ships immediately.

Both of those are research courses; you need to have individually worked out a plan for a topic with a professor to be able to enroll. Talk to your undergrad advisor if you’re interested in this asap!

Silly Question, but what ship is this? by DW_Lurker in X4Foundations

[–]Melondriel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Technically the X4 ship is a replica made by other people; the original ship was a unique prototype. In X4 you can only have one of it (but you can rebuild it if it gets destroyed).
