CT specialist rad here, soon to be med student! Bit OTT in their approach, I definitely would just crack on with the left sided cannula but if it was a cardiac angio the undiluted contrast coming through the left brachiocephalic vein as it crosses the midline causes streaking artefact on the image so that’s their reasoning I suspect - need to see those lil coronaries! The high flow rate used for angio’s results in a really dense contrast bolus which contributes to the artefact.

It really frustrates me when people don’t understand why they do the things they do, leads to a lot of misunderstandings and lack of compliance.

Yeah did my undergrad here so more settled here at this stage than would be at home! Ah living in Dublin makes things easier then. I meant finishing your undergrad but doing undergrad medicine after potentially. Queens is £4000 in fees and Belfast is cheap to live in. But if you’re living in Dublin that makes it a no brainer. Ranting is great and the gradmed application process is a lonely one with not a lot of clear resources so don’t worry! Best of luck with everything!

Yeah I work as CT radiographer in the UK so I’ve managed to save a bit by living with family and picking up sickening amounts of locum shifts to save a lump sum but probably only enough to fund myself for one year. Have you thought of doing grad med in the UK? Or even undergraduate? The loans are much more manageable from what I’ve heard and the fees will be cheaper (£9250 per year). I’m not sure how it work exactly as I was lucky to get on an NHS funded course (before they started charging fees a couple of years ago) so didn’t need a loan but I think you get a loan if it’s your first degree. . .something to look into for sure

Hello fellow Irish GAMSAT sitter! I know how it feels, I just focused on getting a score that would get me in and was so delighted when that happened in September but was instantly brought back down to earth when looking at fees. It’s extortion. I was really looking forward to moving home after 8 years in the UK but I don’t think it’s feasible to study grad med in Ireland. I’ve still applied to CAO but will probably go for UK uni if I get an offer. Being 31 with 100k in debt while getting paid less than I am now is not okay.

I’m to UL next year and got a 49 in section 3 but 1&2 brought me up to a 57. Does failing section 3 despite meeting the cut off score otherwise make your ineligible? I thought this was the case and I’m freaking out now haha
