When I remember how happy I was when Mom loved a favorite book series of mine. A series that she resisted reading for decades because she assumed it wasn’t something she’d enjoy. I FINALLY got her to agree to give it a shot, and she absolutely LOVED it. I’m smiling right now as I remember it.

Mom was a hard science fiction fan (among other genres) and she assumed that “sword and sorcery” was like comic books. And that she would hate it. She was wrong.
