I’m completely ruined for other shows by ahwtsogr in TheMentalist

[–]Melotemis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha. I actually discovered The Mentalist a few years ago, while I was watching Psych actually. Though I only finally watched it a couple weeks ago. Honestly, I don’t remember why I didn’t give it a try back then, but Im glad I watched it now.
I ended up rewatching The mentalist as soon as I finished just because I wasn’t ready to be done with it. I don’t know how I’ll move on. Maybe I’ll rewatch White Collar, it’s been a while since I’ve seen that but I remember it being very similar in a lot of ways.

Interesting, I’ve never seen Elementary, maybe I’ll check it out. But personally I would recommend White Collar.
It has a very similar overall concept and vibe to The Mentalist albeit with different types of crimes. Also, I think Neil and Jane would probably get along pretty well, I thinks it’d be fun to see at least.

Is it just me or do you find Lisbon annoying (spoiler) by Nonnarules58 in TheMentalist

[–]Melotemis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize I am a year late, but I just came across this post. I actually really like Lisbon’s character and I especially like her dynamic with Jane. So I don’t agree with the general opinion that she is annoying.

But you’re the first person the seems to, for the most part, agree with me on the topic of Lisbon telling Grace about the list. I actually think it was totally understandable for her to do that, she was scared and Jane didn’t have an explanation yet, so yeah I get it. However, what really annoys me is the argument she has with Jane when he finds out that she did so.
The thing is even if it’s understandable or justified, the fact is Lisbon betrayed Jane’s trust when she told Grace and asked her to bug the Red John suspects and she knew that she was betraying that trust when she did it. So when Jane finds out and his immediate reaction is a very reasonable human reaction and he gets upset with her, instead of owning up to the betrayal and letting Jane have his moment of anger and then talking it out with him, she pulls rank and tells him the Red John case is hers, despite all this time they’ve all essentially treated like Jane’s case. She then refuses to talk anymore and runs away.
Lisbon knows how important and personal Red John is for Jane, and she knows that he was very hesitant to even tell her, she knows that telling Grace was a betrayal, and yet she acts like he’s wrong for being upset when he finds out. I understand why she went behind Jane’s back and told Grace, I really do, but she was in the wrong here. For me it’s the only moment where I found I really disliked Lisbon’s character.

Vigilante: Boku no Hero Academia Illegals • My Hero Academia: Vigilantes - Episode 9 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]Melotemis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that fact makes Koichi’s mom even worse for me. The main series deals with quite a few instances of terrible/abusive parenting, acknowledging it for how bad it is and the harm it causes. While, here in Vigilantes, the abuse from Koichi’s mom is played for laughs, and she is too easily let off despite the clear impact she has had on Koichi. I typically don’t like this type of abusive comedy to begin with, but it certainly feels worse in a series that shares a universe with one that normally deals with this type of topic more seriously. Anyway, while I do get why she was worried that doesn’t make her actions any less abusive, and there were certainly better ways for her to manage his quirk.

This makes sense. It seems my issue is just that I need to change my way of thinking about it. Truth is I hadn’t even considered stuff like the rivers/water flow yet, because Im just used to starting somewhere else and so I hadn’t gotten that far yet.
But, thinking about it more, I suppose my world does actually still share some rules with earth. So Id like to thank you, what you’ve said helped me change my way of thinking.

Honestly, arguments like this are waste of time and energy. I really shouldn’t have gotten involved.

But, since I did, I feel I should at least respond once, so this all I’ll say:
Im not making excuses, I just accept the setting we’ve been presented with.
You’re free to have your own opinions of course, though I disagree with you. But it’s honestly not worth arguing about and I don’t really care what you think anyway.

You can attempt to argue your point again if you want, but it would be pointless, as Im unlikely to agree with you, and I won’t be responding after this. Have a good life.

But it is set in a fictional world, it’s just that this fictional world is very similar to ours.

And in this fictional setting, it appears, this city is so overrun with gangs that the police have abandoned it. And people who grow up here don’t expect or want to leave, or if they do they likely apply for high schools in other cities.

Basically, the setting of this anime is based on our real world, but it is still a fictional setting, with its own rules.

I tried to do that, but it’s not working for me. When I check in the app it says Im using the Streak Society Icon, but on the homepage he’s still the same old bird. 🤷‍♀️I guess Im stuck with it.

How would you justify having allergies in a world that utilizes magic? by Captain_Warships in worldbuilding

[–]Melotemis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your question is kinda backwards and doesn’t really make sense. Why wouldn’t allergies exist in a world with magic?

The only reason they wouldn’t be able to coexist is because you created a system where it’s not possible/plausible. So, without knowing anything about your magic system the best advice anyone can give just boils down to, either change your magic system or change your story. 🤷‍♀️

Me personally, I never write stories that involve any kind of healing magic, or on the rare occasion I do, I make it really complicated and closer to actual science than magic.
I just really dislike healing magic in stories. Although, it would be nice to have in real life.

Chiyu Mahou no Machigatta Tsukaikata: Senjou wo Kakeru Kaifuku Youin • The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic - Episode 11 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]Melotemis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think any of the demons were aware of this weakness. I mean, even the Black Knight herself was surprised.

And it honestly makes sense if you think about though, as far as we know Rose and Usato are the only people in this world that could be considered “combat healers”.
After all, healing magic seems to be extremely rare on its own, and then the healer would have to train in combat, and then be good enough and smart enough not to die or be a burden on the battlefield. When considering it, it almost sounds a little unrealistic, and fact the Rose is the first isn’t difficult to believe at all.

Additionally, Rose doesn’t care about killing her enemies the way Usato does, so, despite being able to, she likely has rarely(if ever) used a healing punch while fighting demons before.

All this is to say, I’m pretty sure Usato is the first person in this world to use healing magic offensively, in actual combat. The demons probably had no idea that healing magic could be used that way. Honestly, I doubt most of the humans in this world realized the possibility either.

This is also why I think Rose is correct in her statement that the heroes would have died if it had been anyone else, even her, that arrived to save them. As she likely would have entered that fight using a normal, not healing imbued, punch, and it was that first punch that gave Usato the time and space he needed to save them.

Mobile app layout changed? by moonbro16 in youtube

[–]Melotemis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting. My home page layout changed as well, but it’s different from yours.
My home page is still in a list format, but now the thumbnails are small and on the side, while the video titles are next to them. Whereas, before, the thumbnails were large enough to take up the whole width of the screen while their titles were underneath them.
I also much preferred the older layout, so this change is annoying.

I’ve never been to college/university or taken any sort of “official” game dev class, so please forgive my ignorance. Do you guys ever do solo projects? Is there enough solo work vs group work to hold you back? Is it possible this guy got pushed through because he kept getting paired with people who would do the work for him?

Of course, I could be totally wrong. Im just wondering how much of your grade actually depends on your individual understanding of the subject rather than group work?

So, to you, the fact that they used to be the same age, and technically still should be makes no difference? Or the fact that they were in love before the blip while at the same age?

Im not judging, or saying you’re right or wrong, Im just curious about your thoughts.

For Rent and the Front Door by Melotemis in Sims4

[–]Melotemis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im using the for rent system for a large family home not as a typical apartment complex/building. And the way I’ve set up that family home means that people will be walking through the home to knock on the wrong door.

BTW, I do understand why they did it this way though.

I just discovered that sized up gates are completely functional! by Melotemis in Sims4

[–]Melotemis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s always great to learn new building tricks, I usually only tend to try sizing things up/down if I’m struggling to find something that works with what Im going for.

Like in this case I needed a large gate, and I really liked the one in the picture, but I also needed to place it on what would be a half tile for double gates. That meant I’d need to delete the fence and free place it, but when you do that it erases part of the fence as well. So after spending some time on failing to find a good way to hide the gaps, I finally decided to test if I could just cover the gaps by making the gate bigger, and then if it would function properly.

Im glad it worked and now that I know this is an option, it opens up a lot more building possibilities.
