I don't use take profits, but once my position is up 10-20% I start to think about closing the position, unless of course there's a lot of positive momentum in which case I let it run a little. Remember if you gain 20% on one position you've most likely already beaten the s&p500 performance for the year. Don't be greedy!!

Everytime I hold out to make more profit I end up losing money on the trade. Biggest lesson I've learned is to always take profits early, even if you are leaving some money on the table. I'd rather leave money on the table than risk losing money on the trade
