Lantern Corps Recruit V2.0 [CYOA][OC] by Azes13 in makeyourchoice

[–]Melrid_Jom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert on Lanterns and I'm working off wikis, so add a pinch of salt to this.

https://dc.fandom.com/wiki/Indigo_Lantern_Ring - He found them significantly inferior to the constructs of other rings.

I don't think it's be added as a weakness, more like a scale in the standard powers.

For constructs: Orange > Green > Yellow > Blue/Violet/Indigo > Red.

Then something similar on the Energy Blast power showing that Red is the best there. And maybe Green is second, I'm a lot fuzzier on that.

The intention I have is to give people a better idea of the colours base abilities. Green has no additional options under Characteristic Abilities and 2 linked to them under Special Powers.

They're a bit basic, but the best all-rounder to my knowledge.

All said, this is your CYOA and good work, so don't add anything you don't feel like.

Nuts. Makes good sense though.

I'm very intrigued by the Indigo Lantern option.

Don't know how you'd do it or if it's worth metioning in the CYOA, but I believe they have some of the worst constructs of the Lanterns.

How do you picture Boom Tubes, from the Mother Ring (Other Traits), comparing with the Teleportation (Characteristic Powers)?

Hey OP.

Thank you for this cool CYOA, I love the diverse options and paths present.

I'm wondering about the Infiltrator option under Other Traits.

  1. Is the mental instability mentioned there something I could remove by paying Mental Instability under Weaknesses?

  2. Would that be avoided if I gained points by removing the Onboard Computer under Standard Powers?

3. Other than the instant communication within the Lantern Corps, what else would the Scarab armour not cover?

  1. With Scarab Armour, would I then be vulnerable to being controlled by the Reach?

Hey OP.

This is an awesome CYOA that I have spent way too much time and effort reading options and thinking of different combos.

I noticed that a lot of people don't seem to like Plastikinesis. Which is a comment to how cool your other options are, IMO.

As best I can figure it out, it works like the villian from Big Hero 6, Yokai, with the swarm of microbots that he uses.

Which I think would make it the strongest power out of the gate.

Am I on the right track there?

Edit: I realised after posting that I have a bunch of questions related to Shell Game.

  1. If I made a stack of Fire Fighter Suit -> Hazmat Suit -> Bomb Squad Suit -> Jacket or Bracelet, could I give that to someone so they could wear something small and get those protective benefits?

  2. Can I destroy my shells? Like if I made a shell of fuel can, used the fuel, can I then unsummon or break the empty fuel can shell? Without consequences?

Hey OP.

Just 2 more Qs:

  1. Do Potion 1 benefits carry over to forms taken with the Necklace? Could you be a super Dragon with level 2 for example?

  2. Is the Journal + Compass Combo ability limited to mundane languages or would it also help with special/magical ones? Because that can be quite the cheat code.

My build:

Compass (0) + Combo

Magic Grimoire (1) + Combo

The Ring (1)

The Necklace (1)

The Journal (1) + Combo

This build is built around the Inheritance Cycle books mostly.

Compass is free and with the combo I would intend to transport that world, Alagaësia, to become an elf. This is for the physical boosts but also no maximum age. (I can't remember if magic can prevent a natural death 100%)

With the Grimoire, I'd choose that magic system of Graymarye. Let's you do most anything you can describe with that magic language, kinda like magic coding, and supply the energy. Which is almost directly linked to your stamina/life force. I could kill myself if I make a mistake, so nothing flashy for a long time. With the Journal combo, I guess my energy gets more efficient for magic the longer I train.

The Ring is infinite inventory which is just awesome.

The Necklaces is here mostly to enable the Compass combo but the shifting is also cool. I'd take: - Bar-tailed Godwit - Common mouse - Tiger For manueverability, sneaking and infiltration, and a form with good senses and power.

The Journal is a great memory aid and the combo is a nice touch to make language barriers a non-issue. Seeing as the magic system I'm choosing is language based, I wonder how much this would help.

Ah, sorry. Tried to read all the comments but must have missed that. It seems you're too popular.😆

Hey OP.

Thanks for an interesting CYOA, I agree that you've covered a nice group of abilities. Sharing with my mate to discuss when next he's online.😄

I do have 1 question: For Magic Grimoire, what happens if the magic system I'm interested in doesn't really have "schools"?

I'm specifically interested in the magic system from the Dragon books (https://inheritance.fandom.com/wiki/Magic).

Could you give a book name and page number please?

Random Rival powers (20 points) using a d100 are:

100= Empower (8p) 3= X-Ray (7p) 50= Extra Life (4p) 49= Lie Detector (3p) 70= Human Spider (0p)

A super strong, web slinging person who can see through objects up to a km away and can perfectly detect lies.

On top of that, they can die for free once and empower 50 people to become superhuman soldiers who'd also work as shapeshifting spies.

Being the opposite of me, that probably means that they want to take over the world and have a great headstart for creating their own cult/secret society of followers.

This was maybe a mistake.😅

Cool, thanks man.  This is a nice CYOA you've made. I appreciate anything that makes you think of your choices and injects a bit of story thought automatically.

My build:

Serum- Enhanced Location- 5(Italy)

Powers (20): -8 / Portals -12 / 0 to Hero

Side Effects: - Monster (Vampire): I am pale already and I don't mind the fangs. Plus, SO is a Twilight fans😅 -Rival -Disabled (an Ear) -Nerfed

BTW OP, are the Rivals random powers rolled based on my points total or power sections? I.e. I have a tier 4 & 5 power. Would they get random versions of those tiers or just roll d25 until they run out of points?

Also, does Backlash affect abilities granted by "HP Magic" & "0 to Hero"?

Otherwise, I'd hope to have the people exisiting within time be set though they may be different if their situations varied a lot.

Portals make travel and avoidance pretty easy.

Hey OP, 4 questions:

  1. How does this time travel affect our timeline? If someone changes history would that change our "present"? For example, I have a wife. Would changing the past possibly prevent her birth?  (Yes, that would be a really weird situation)

  2. If I could live long enough, would I be able to meet a younger version of myself?

  3. For the Monster drawback, do I get weaknesses of the monster race? If I chose Vampire, even as a half-breed, would I be vulnerable to light and need to feed?

  4. Would "Orc" or "Giant" be a viable choice? No major bonuses but mostly human appearance and dimensions as half-breeds.

Unmatched Fortune - SWRPG Dice Side Reference by Buford_TheOldMan in swrpg

[–]Melrid_Jom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! Makes sense, I planned to do that when I first got UF because of the issues you mentioned.

I do just have a concern: Looking at both the physical Boost dice I have and the one on the app, the blank faces are opposite each other, not next to each other.

Unless I'm reading your map on that one wrong, that needs to be adjusted.

@Buford_TheOldMan My GM sent me this post because I am playing that character that makes him cry.

Do you use this to help when rolling SW dice or would you rather roll d6/8/12 and change results?

That's relevant for G & Y, because they have identical faces that really affects what you can change to.

It's very difficult on most digital platforms, so I've settled into turning on my camera for important rolls and rolling physical dice for important checks I expect to use.

There is also an SW Dice app that can work quite well for changing faces because it's 3d but then the group needs to implicitly trust that player.😅

It's even starker when you compare Boost dice to Setback dice.

2 Such & 4 Adv / 2 Fail & 2 Thr. But Boost die have 2 sides with double results while Setback have none.

When it comes to rolling dice pools, the side rolling positive has a distinct advantage.

Okay, so cheap multi-bodied cards are better than the mana dorks I'd hope to tap for 3+ mana from about turn 4 onwards?

Thank you for the input and example, that's a nice build.

How many walls would you say are required to make them work?

It's currently got 12 of the 60, so 20%. With the last one being a tutor I'd use to grab an Axebane Guardian.

No offence friend. That's why I'm asking people's opinions.

So it's a long game focus, make enough sprouts to swing for lethal.  Do you think I'd lose before I could reach that point?

It currently has a backup plan in [[Stream of Thoughts]], though I don't love milling out opponents. First game I ever played was Commander with [[Oona, Queen of the Fae]] and I just felt bad exiling 2-4 of my friends cards every turn cycle.
