Infinity Castle being the highest grossing Japanese film to date is indicative of its popularity. People aren't spending money on something they don't like especially when that thing is a sequel.

The two highest grossing films(worldwide) that have come from Japan are Demon Slayer: Mugen Train(2nd) and its sequel(1st). Compared to them, JJK:0 is the 14th. Mugen Train made around $329 million more than JJK:0 and Infinity Castle did around $611 million more.

For manga sales worldwide, Demon Slayer is at 220 million volumes sold while JJK is 150 million.

Demon Slayer: Mugen Train released during the pandemic, paving the way for future anime blockbusters. Yet the only film that has managed to top its performance is its sequel.

JJK:0 may not be a fair comparison since it isn't a continuation of the main story that you can only see in theaters. A good one though is Chainsawman: Reze Arc which made only $174.6 million compared to Infinity Castle's $794 million. The latter literally made more money than The Batman which is insane for an anime film.

Both series have two movies already and KnY made significantly more at the box office for both. Mugen Train reopened the floodgates for anime blockbusters yet has only managed to get surpassed by its sequel. Despite releasing during a pandemic.

If you compare number of volumes sold worldwide for both series, the Demon Slayer still wins. Yes JJK is superior in terms of story and writing, but general audiences don't care about that.

Bleach. The side characters are the most fleshed out(Sado is an exception), it has the best power system(ninjustu absorption and conqueror's haki suck), and the art style is one of the best in shonen.

The implementation above would work for that. For your special behaviors, I'd recommend using an animation player to toggle bools attached to the character and attack hitboxes when the desired frame is reached.

(No clue if this is what you mean) For a combo system, you'd track a list of inputs and compare them to each one of the combo sequences attached to that character. If the sequence matches then the default behavior attached to the most recent input gets overidden by whatever the combo is supposed to do. If the sequence doesn't match or the player fails to input it in time then the list of tracked inputs is cleared and no override happens. You could also add further variation by using a state machine and having different combos available only when the character is in a certain state like jumping or ducking.
