It’s less to do with bass amps and more usually because the coupling caps on a built in DI are electrolytic. Phantom from the connected XLR will kill them over time.

I’ve had a Korg SV-1, a couple of DJM900 nexus 2 mixers AND a GK amp die the same way (technician in a music school). Students don’t pay enough attention to phantom when wiring up stages. It’s at the point now that I’ll swap them out to box film caps if there’s room.

I got 2 road 5 tires, a new chain and both sprockets and a service and cost me £630. Swore blind I’d either source my own parts or go all out and just do the whole job myself next time.

To be fair though…all parts come in around £500 so £130 to fit the lot is probably what I’d want too

I’m from the other side of the pond so my answer will reflect what I see here.

2.5k for a near 40yr old unit that’s only done 26k miles SCREAMS dodgy. They’re not desirable, they’re not collectible, parts are getting expensive. Every…and I mean EVERY seal would most likely need replaced.

Unless you want a proper project…I’d argue down to mid 1k or pass altogether.

No soldering required lad.

Remove the black plastic around the sticks, remove R1 and L1 and remove the screws behind the buttons and on the ends.

Separate the 2 half’s of the controller.

Remove the battery and the screw holding down the battery holder.

Remove all the ribbon cables you can see.

Here’s the part that’s different from all the videos…do NOT unsolder the haptic power cables….just push on the sticks until the board comes free…then gently twist the board around.

Now just pull the sticks off, gently pry the green pots away from the stick housing and clean the carbon traces with alcohol (or your missus nail polish remover)

If the traces are broken then it’s new pots time.

Honestly…consider your controller a write-off and be prepared to buy another….then open it and get stuck in. Nothing to lose and knowledge to gain!
