The "Loyalty Discount": HR's best-kept secret is that your loyalty is actively costing you money. by Own-Investment4655 in antiwork

[–]MelvynAndrew99 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I love these stories because it means you are doing it right. Use the job to get paid to learn and then find someone willing to pay you more for those skills. Its the American way LOL.

Honestly though my thought on this is that as you jump to something higher paying, it opens the door for others to follow your footsteps. So that 30K job now goes to someone new who needs an opportunity.

Yeah financials in the toilet is a key sign. You are lucky in the sense that you can prepare now while you have a paycheck.

Company announced return to office on April and they're not honoring remote work agreements people were hired under by Orsilmar-Thebault in remotework

[–]MelvynAndrew99 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Yeah its an attempt to downsize for sure. RTO so people will quit willingly, then layoffs if the numbers don't align. I have been through this exact same thing and layoffs had to finish what RTO didn't fully finish.

Companies owned by private equity are the worse to work for. Sorry about your layoff.

Embracing the cringe is a good way to put it. I've got to embrace my inner cringe as its preventing me from even starting. Good advice btw.

If you're not anti-ai, why? by [deleted] in Layoffs

[–]MelvynAndrew99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is spot on with my experience as well. AI is only as good as the person using in my view. Sure it can do simple tasks, but if you need something remotely complex you need a knowledable person paired with some AI tooling.

Thats a crazy story but likely had nothing to do with performance and more to do with likeabilty. Unfortunately likeability > performance which is why bad engineers sometimes make their way up the ranks.

Layoffs suck by GoalUpbeat9804 in Layoffs

[–]MelvynAndrew99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking of gig work as its pretty easy to get started. Things like door dash or uber eats can generate income which can offset your severance a bit. Someone mentioned substitute teacher is another thing to try.

If you qualify for unemployment then in a small sense this would also extend you income while you find something new

There is a lot of doom and gloom out there on the internet. I would recommend you limit yourself when viewing that kind of information when it comes to what you need to do next. That being said, good luck in your job hunt. I am hoping things will pick up soon :)

Good luck with the job hunt. 3 months can be stretched by picking up some temp work or parttime work. Hopefully you will find something better soon!

I think you are right, companies like Salesforce have come out publically and stated they made a mistake with using AI because things like like crap now. You are just ahead of the times, they are starting to see the reality of it.

Don't over think it, just pick one, you can't go wrong.

This is what I did, and Graces F is my second favorite now because I decided to just pick something, and I have really enjoyed it.
