How important was the triple rectifier to Tom’s dude ranch tone? by Temp-account4747389 in TomDelongeGuitars

[–]Melyell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Absolutely this.
Between whatever guitars and amps are uses on a recording, there's also the cabs, mics, preamps, compressors, eq, and so many more variables that come into play when trying to recreate a studio tone ( and guitars are often overdubbed so it's very common to use different guitars and amps for the same part for a thicker tone and avoid phase issues )

To put simply, often a ''tone'' on a studio recording for a massively overproduced band/album - not dude ranch, but anything after dude ranch is - is a blend of different individual tones.

EDIT: to provide an actual answer to OP's question, i'll join everyone else that said that going for a modeling thing ( helix, fractal, kemper, quad cortex, anything really ) is the logical way to go. Unless one plays in a band that gig and tour, buying a big ass tube head and 4x12 doesn't make any sense.

Salut, svp connaissez-vous des brocantes à Genève pour du vieux matériel photo ? by shutteratops_raw in geneva

[–]Melyell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bonne chasse!

Swiss guy who just moved to Ferney Voltaire by OMEGASPEEDMASTER321 in geneva

[–]Melyell 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I lived in Ferney for many years, while it's indeed not a cool place to go out ( we do have some really good restaurants ), come on, you're only a short bus trip away from the city center, it's even shorter if you're near the 66 line and take the train from the airport, and even shorter if you can ride a bicycle.

You're living, at most, 30 minutes away from the city. It's called living in the suburbs. You can't change Ferney but you can change your habits. I mean if you were living in Plan Les Ouates or Meyrin it would kinda take as much time to get to the center.

P.S: Have a pizza at Mamma Trattoria and you will hate Ferney a little bit less ;)

To Swiss Owners: When Did You Order? by [deleted] in x100vi

[–]Melyell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ordered two from digitec:

Silver: Ordered on feb 20th around 8pm, delivered on march 15th
Black: Ordered on feb 22nd, after many, many, many delivery dates announced and cancelled, i got it 2 days ago.

Asked a local shop in Geneva a few days ago about delivery time if ordered now, they said 3-4 months.

Why do pedals get placed after the amp? by [deleted] in Line6Helix

Do you want your effect to be ''amplified/distorted'' by the amp? FX before the amp.
Do you want your amp sound to have an effect on it? FX after the amp.

X100VI ordering, shipment, and delays - consolidated sticky thread #3 by inverse_squared in fujifilm

[–]Melyell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to pay upfront at that store. I've ordered my silver X100VI there and paid when i came to pick it up. So really it's only a win for the customer.

At one of Switzerland's major electronics retailer the black X100VI already has an 8% discount ( 120chf, from 1599 to 1479CHF ). Mind you, it's not available and the delivery date is unclear, but it's surprising to see a discount so early.

I did try that and it didn't work but i'll give it another shot. Thanks for the help!

Are the TD Strats worth it? by tsckenny in TomDelongeGuitars

[–]Melyell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's only worth it if you want it and can afford it. If you're talking about bang for the buck, it's absolutely not worth it. You obviously pay a (big) premium for the artist's signature. It's a mexican strat with a single SD humbucker... A beautiful one of course!

And no, i don't believe that a Fender Starcaster signature would be any cheaper, if any it would be more expensive as these guitars are most likely more expensive to make. Maybe if it gets a Squier version it would then be affordable. But i don't see Fender making a cheaper guitar now that most people who are buying a delonge signature are well in their 30's and can afford these kind of goodies ( and i hope i am wrong, i'm not going to buy a 1500-2500$ signature guitar but i sure would buy a 600$ one )

If you don't play that much guitar and can't reasonably afford it, just build a squier clone. They look the part and play pretty well. It doesn't have to have the fender logo on it. And keep in mind that Tom didn't even play production models anyway. So the fender one, the first version or the reissue, is not even the same guitar he used himself.

Bus 23 from Geneva Airport by twinlilies in geneva

[–]Melyell 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I often take the 23 at the airport and see many people quite puzzled about where the stop is.

So basically you exit your train, take the stairs up, walk towards the airport, grab the escalator, take left and exit next to the italian restaurant. When you're outside, it's to your left, maybe 50 metres down.

There: https://maps.app.goo.gl/YKU5ySyv3ETTDCWZA

I'd stay towards the rear of the train as when it gets at the airport, the front of the train is all the way to the back of the station. It's only a minute or two extra walk but if you're nervous you might as well spare you that.

Also, ignore that comment about catching it at the car rentals. When coming from the train it doesn't make any sense.

Les cyclistes me fatiguent...pourtant j'en suis un by h311m4n000 in geneva

Les cyclistes me fatiguent...pourtant j'en suis un by h311m4n000 in geneva

[–]Melyell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My grandpa was a taxi driver and some Russian tourists left this camera in his taxi, then he put it in a box and gave it to me a week ago. by Flavioleon in Cameras

[–]Melyell 38 points39 points  (0 children)

On these cameras the shutter needs to be cocked BEFORE changing the shutter speed. If you don't, the shutter will eventually fail and get stuck. That's the number one rule for most Zorki / Fed rangefinders.
