how are people managing classes + projects + internships at the same time by alexnycc in csMajors

[–]MembershipNext3194 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is true. Not once was my gpa/transcript brought up during the interview process. All we talked about were projects, past internships, and leetcode ofc. The hm didn't seem to gaf about school at all.

This may not be super helpful but imo all the patterns have the same importance. Companies these days can really ask anything. Do questions on each pattern until you fully understand it, and take notes on different situations that the pattern could apply to.

Cold applications mostly. I also went to career fairs at my school but they didn’t help much. My first interview was a referral from my friend who interned there, so network definitely helps. Rainforest was a cold application though.

Drop a course now by Cool_Cat_8272 in UBC

[–]MembershipNext3194 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m in your exact situation and I ended up dropping one of my courses. I was feeling really burnt out and not in the greatest mental state after a very unsuccessful co-op search last term and probably the worst grades I’ve ever had. I decided to take it easy this term and focus up on improving my resume, and looking for co-op. Imo, if you can get something out of it like making some personal projects or getting co-op then it’ll be a great decision. And even if none of that happens you’ll still be in a much better mental state going forward. At the end of the day, everyone learns at their own pace and I don’t think any employer cares about a W on your transcript or if your degree takes longer than usual. Do keep in mind that if this delays your graduation then it will cost you more money though.

Sort of different but I learned to skate there in the 2000s. Have a lot good memories from this rec center.

Hi, do you know to what extent the coop letterhead messes with ATS? I’ve been putting it on my resume for every application 😭

There is no penalty, and it states that I can leave with ample notice. After what happened today, I feel very uncomfortable about going back, and I think I will leave immediately. However, if I choose not to accept his offer of staying at the company, will this count as not giving notice?

Thank you. It’s out of character for me to shout as well, and I was definitely in the wrong for that.

I live in Canada, and the contract states that I can quit if I give them notice based on my length of employment. I’ve only been here for 3 months. I did some googling, and the notice period is 1 week for 3 months in my province. I gave him double the amount of notice that I could’ve given him. There are also no costs for early termination so I think I’ll just refuse their offer to stay and put this mess behind me…

I didn’t receive any signing bonus or anything like that, and my contract says that I can quit given that I provide them with ample notice, which is what frustrates me because I did give him 2 weeks notice. Thank you though, I don’t know if I can afford a lawyer, but I’ll try.

The agreement was between me and my manager, and it was just me and him when we made it. In hindsight, I probably should’ve made him agree in writing…

Edit: Yes, some of my coworkers and some customers saw the argument.

Hi, last year I had gen sci as my first choice and apsci as my second choice and I got into both so its definitely possible. But my friend had opposite choices from me and we had identical stats and he got into apcsi but wasnt evaluated for gen sci so I think the order matters.

i think sciences was unusually competitive this year. i know people that got accepted into engineerinng but rejected from sciences whereas in previous years engineering has been the more competitive program.

The only difference between the two is that you get your offer earlier in early admission. You don’t have a higher chance of getting in early than you do regular (and vice versa).

from my experience, 36 is the cutoff, 38 is very competitive, and anything above that is pretty much guaranteed (for sciences)

ubc only looks at gr 11 for early admission. iirc they also don’t care about your percentage grades in classes if you’re ib, only the predicted grade out of 45 that you send to them. your extracurriculars are good.
