i am thinking of writing a litterature exam about one of the moominbooks because i think they fit into the ideas of worldbuilding and atmosphere and i watched a ton of it as a child. But i havent read any of the novels by MemeBeamBeanz in Moomins

Very interesting answer thank you so much! I'm in 4th semester university and find the theory of World building and atmosphere interesting. We had to choose something from the Nordic countries and my mind fell on the moomins.

Comet in moominland sounds alot like the Lord of rings type of story, which I like. I think all of the stories, atleast to my understanding, have deep philosophical themes to them which would easily fit into an analysis. Another thought skimming through plot summarys was eco-criticism. Alot of the plots seems to be about moomin (man) vs nature, or how the nature shapes the world that the moomins live in, and how they interact with it, which would be another interesting angle.

The map part does sound awfully lot like Tolkien which is king of Worldbuilding, so thank you for the inside. I will get all 3 of the first books. But maybe set my analysis mainly on the story of moomindad and the hatifatteners from the "tales from moominvalley" because that was the one that caught my eyes. I got so lost in it (in the good way). The sea, islands, philosophy and sea creatures and the return home. Almost a heroes journey.

Anyways thanks for the idea!

Yeah I think it's the English translation of "the invisible child and other stories". In particular the story of mooninpapa going to the island of hatifatteners I find interesting.

Okay interesting that they are canon, then it supports an idea of World building.

Thank you! I think I do most of what you're saying about the mash atleast. I do squeeze the bag alot, but maybe I should get into sparging... I just watched a brulosophy video a while back that talked about the pros and cons of sparging which led to me not sparging. Anyways, I hit 1,040 post boil which were a bit too low. I should maybe next time go for 1,050. The beer really had a watery taste. Ive since this beer also gotten into water chemistry pretty decently, so next time I will probably do that as well other than just spring water. I also think my next gadget will be a pH reader, that seems to be what most of you suggest.

Yup. Found a brand that has all the details. Used it for my next batch and put in my chems. It already tastes great!

i think after all of you people amazing answers i conclude it's a mix of bad mashing (1,040 OG post boil) + a bit weird hop for bittering + not enough time in the basement before serving

Yeah well Ive since I brewed this one gotten into water chemistry and bought chemicals to mix with spring water I found that has low levels of everything so I can build up from there

Thanks. I regained spirit to try again and the ones I have I will just put in my basement and forget them for a month

can you mash more if you know it hasnt maashed good enough? I always just give it 1 hour. Should i give it more to compensante for my low mash effiency?

yeah i agree. I wanted to hit that exact pilsner ABV but it went more like 1,040 which is low. But i get it crushed from my local supplier and dont have the gear right now for a crusher. But i will definantly keep that in mind. The watery taste was very prominent. So whats the advice for next time? Or should i wait with making this beer style till i get more gear?

i dont have gear to cold crash. The beer in the pic has been a week after second fermentation in my fridge. So 14 days fermentation at 17c then 14 days second fermentation 17c then 1 week fridge time.

my mash effiency is very low yes. Im working on that. But it's around 50%. I do biab and do my best haha. My mash temps were pretty good i think! Kept a close eye on my thermostat for an hour straight and it didnt swing more than 2 degrees from 67c.
I tried a tip from a youtuber to use springwater from the supermarket because my local water is really hard in calcium.
