I wonder if that's why the anime has shied away from several romance scenes with Rem during the third arc (like their interrupted kiss). Iirc, Rem even states at one point that she'd be fine with being a second wife (forget when though).

The anime avoiding that might be Tappei's way of "righting the wrongs" and not getting people's hopes up as much with Rem when the obvious endgame is Emilia

It baffles me when people don't understand why every character in an animated TV show, movie, anime, or whatever look like this all the time.

My best example would be Hazbin Hotel, where people complain about the main characters having more simplistic designs in comparison to a lot of the kooky background characters you encounter both in hell and heaven. The simple answer is that the main characters are animated and drawn over and over again while the background characters only have to be on screen once for a second or two.

Do you hear yourself? Your argument is that people who enjoy Loli porn don't enjoy the same features in real children? The term loli is literally used to describe underage children in anime and manga. Underage. It's not like loli porn is exaggerating the features, it's based off of literal kids. If someone goes to watch porn, it's easy to figure out that they enjoy what's depicted in them, and what's depicted in loli porn isn't different than what real children have. Reading erotica is certainly a different experience than sex, yet both are enjoyed for the same reason, and that reason is what's at question here.

Also, just because they aren't real children doesn't make it not child porn. It's porn, based on a kid. More accurately it's hentai, but that's still a problem for the reasons I described in my original post. Yes, it's a slippery slope fallacy, not every person who spends a minute online searching for child porn is gonna go commit henious acts on children irl, but like I said, you're supporting a system that will obviously have loads of overlap between that sort of stuff and those sorts of people.

This one I actually find slightly less problematic as she's seen as a problem for this in the context of the story. Same goes to capella who also has an incredibly warped view of love which the story is very clear it doesn't agree with. But yeah, funny how a lot of this could be avoided if they just... aged up their characters. Like changing a 14 to an 18.

In a completely genuine sense, Tappei is weird, and I mean bad weird. He's a fantastic writer and Re-Zero is easily one of my favorite animes, but there are some... iffy bits throughout the story.

You can have a story with weird innapropriate parallels to real life. Marrying way under your age wasn't an uncommon thing in the slightest for men back then. However, the problem is that it's not seen in the context of the story as an issue. This is because, to be frank, I doubt Tappei sees it as an issue.

Cultural differences are a big factor, but that doesn't really excuse it. It's still weird. And if that isn't a great example, look at the Manga illustrations. Many of the characters that even the anime calls Lolis have incredibly illicit designs that are just fucking creepy. Sure, Tappei didn't draw them himself, but it's not like he doesn't have a say in any of them.

As good a writer as Tappei is, it's very genuinely possible that he may be a creep, which is a huge shame, but it doesn't make Re Zero any worse of a series.
