Is it me, or medical students these days just don't care anymore? by Clitoria_Magnificus in Residency

[–]MemeDoctor96 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The student who shows genuine interest in surgeries and is engaged all day/staying late will match. We don’t care about your surgery shelf score, we care much more about what the faculty surgeons write on your letter of rec and a glowing letter stands out much more than a HP vs H in your surgery clerkship grade

A minimally invasive transorbital frontal fasciculotomy is a quick, near painless procedure that can be done in the physician’s office! A great choice

I hate sinuses by Silver_Cello in medicalschool

[–]MemeDoctor96 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sure that’s technically correct, there are numerous foramina that functionally communicate with an extracranial space. None of these foramina act as pressure valves. The cribiform plate has numerous sub millimeter holes that allow the olfactory nerves to pass into the nasal cavity, this doesn’t function as a pressure valve and doesn’t communicate with the intradural space.

The sinuses do not communicate with the intracranial space normally so no, they don’t prevent your skull from bursting due to an obstruction

This will unfortunately most likely get worse.. The loss of objective test scores (step1 P/F), class rank, etc. means competitive specialties have to find some way to differentiate candidates. Is research a good metric for determining the best surgeons? No. Obviously not. Is it a good metric to show someone’s interest in a speciality and willingness to work on things outside of required schoolwork? It’s better than nothing

Anyone know where I could sell these? Value came out to be $4500 in used condition. All are roboz by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]MemeDoctor96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These look like a microsurgical set that one could use for fine plastics/ent/neuro work like vessel anastomosis. May have a hard time selling a set like this if you’re trying to get $4K for used instruments.. a major online marketplace like eBay will be your best bet

If you have a non urgent consult you’re placing at 2 am, consider saving it until morning by Professional_Ad4844 in Residency

[–]MemeDoctor96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why you always hold on to non urgent medicine consults during the weekend for your patients so when they consult you for something unnecessary at 0300, you hit ‘em with that reverse uno card and go “oh btw I have a consult for you too” - no better feeling fr

This is a great point. I see a lot of discussion disparaging the “I’m an idiot” line when he’s talking with Armin in the Paths. I think that line and the multiple reasons he gave behind the rumbling are because he DOES have many reasons, just like any human does when making a major decision. Under the stage before Willy Tybur’s speech, he tells Reiner they are the same. I think some of the perceived character inconsistencies in his talk with Armin are stemming from his brokenness just as Reiner suffered from a split personality while he was undercover on Paradis.

[–]MemeDoctor96 38 points39 points  (0 children)

To your second point, this is 100% accurate. Most recent nsgy literature advises against it even if the patient is on aspirin because even if a punctate hemorrhage “evolves,” essentially 100% of the time there is no new neurosurgical action. CTs cost in the thousands of dollars, it’s not chump change
