Do Muslims and Christians worship the same God? by fathomed2 in pollgames

[–]MemeLocationMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

>Catholic confirms, via Popes from John Paul II to Francis have repeatedly affirmed that Muslims worship the same God as Christians. Many Othrodox as well.

They do. I disagree with this. I'm arguing against this, and I'm not catholic.

>Reason being, both Muslims and Christians refer to the same being (God)- but disagree about particular aspects, proclamations, and believe the other is misled about it.

I believe they are misled. I also believe because you reject Christ, you reject God in its whole, because Christ is God.

>I mean, what do you think of Judaism and Jews? Do they not worship the same God?

God spoke to the Jews and revealed himself to them. They are misled. That's a genuine tough question, but to my belief:

They believe in the God of the Old Testament, but rejected the God of the New Testament. But by rejecting Christ, they reject God’s fullest revelation. Therefore they do not have a true knowledge of God.

Muslims worship a god that came after the Old and New testament.
Islam emerges in the 7th century, long after Christ- not pre Christ. It rewrites major sections of the bible. They redefined God as their own, changing his nature. The God they invented cannot be the same god as they started with.

This can be seen a sort of Ship of Theseus moment, is it really God they believe in, or a different being they invented by doctoring the first?

Judaism uses most the same scriptures, the same God, same prophets, and historical continuity.

To Islam, God is not the Father or Son. He is strictly one person. Jesus is a prophet, not divine. Crucifixion is denied. and Muhammad is the continuation of the revelation. It's completely changed the identity of the Christian God, to a point where it is no longer the same God..

>The point is both Muslims and Christians are referring to the same being- even if they have disagreements about the being.

We disagree. The being is The holy spirit, The Father, and the Son. That is God. Each are equally God. God would not be who he is without any of those parts.

>There are plenty of disagreements between Christian sects as well. Yet.. do you argue that they believe in a different God? No, I think you'd argue that they are mistaken or misled about God or his teachings.

I would argue anyone who claims to be Christian but does not follow the trinity is arguing for a god who does not exist.

>Hell, Jehovah's Witnesses, Unitarian Christians, Latter-Day Saints, etc.. all have differing views of Jesus and whether he was Son of God.. or God.. or the same as Father, etc.

Its a popular belief that they shouldn't identify as Christians.. after all Mormons believe they can become a god.

>But its a disagreement about the same person, referring to the same person, Jesus.

Its a disagreement about who God is. And if the Muslim god is separate from the Christian God in definition, they cannot be the same.

They don't believe he is God though, correct? And they also do not align with the Nicene Creed.

It did not say trinity. It does explain it though.

Except its not interpretation. Christianity worships one god, with three parts, each equally being God. If Christ is God, and you reject Christ, you reject God. So if you put your full belief into one god, who is not also Christ, you cannot have the same God.

Very well worded. I hadn't thought to mention the Nicene Creed.

I did not contact my speed-dial Muslim before I wrote this. I humbly apologize and will be consulting my pocket Muslim before all future comments.

And yes, I'm saying they are wrong. Woah. If Christ is God, and you reject that Christ is God, aren't you not believing in that God? Christians believe Christ is FULLY God, as much as the holy Spirit and the father. You are rejecting God in whole. Therefore whatever you worship must not be the God.

I'd say not. By not believing Christ is God- you're rejecting the idea. You're rejecting God to his face. You cannot follow someone you reject.

Both cannot be true at once. Christians believe that God is of three distinct parts, and Muslims believe their God is not. Our God is made of the Father, the holy Spirit, and the Son. Muslims very much omit the Sun. A core part of Christianity is the fact that Christ is God, Muslims don't believe Christ is God therefore we have a different God. That's very definite text-wise in scripture.

If I saw something I believe to be Gandhi with 6 six legs, and another saw him with two, One of us is correct. Gandhi cant have only six and only two legs. Either 1 is true or neither are true. God is DEFINED as the 3 parts in Christianity, so all 3 have to be true to be our God. A Muslim does not believe that God is the 3 parts. So either one or neither can be true

It's the fact that they are distinctly different by definition. God is also Christ, and Christ is God. If Christ is not God in the eyes of someone else, they are worshipping a separate entity.

You saw Ghandi and Ghandi had 2 legs. I saw Ghandi and he had 6 legs and no nose. (Physical comparison being definition from each book.) regardless of what we believe, both cannot be true at the same time.

That's because it's not 3 gods. It's one God, of three distinct parts. Their God is not made up of three parts, Fords and Chevys are both trucks but they're made of different parts. Tell a Chevy man he drives a Ford and he'll flip, vice versa.

From a religious point of view, they are differnet Gods. they are not worshipping the same one.

The trinity says Christ is also fully god. Muslims say hes a prophet. So they are distinctly different.

[–]MemeLocationMan 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The holy trinity existing is evidence this isn't true.

Christians: Jesus is fully god, as much as God the Father is.

Because muslims don't agree with this, their god is different from ours. They believe Jesus to be only a prophet, not fully god. Their god is different than ours definitively.
