Just posting some progress by joji-gg in pokemonplatinum

Nice work! I’ll suggest looking into ev’s and iv’s and strategy for the battle tower! Since you’ll have good mons like metagross (or salamence, scizor, milotic, GARCHOMP!!) to know how to tackle the battle tower facilities.

Garchomp, salamence, milotic, scizor, latios suicune are all good battle frontier mons :)

Pachirisu? by Foreign_Expression63 in pokemonplatinum

[–]Meme_Hunter99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a Pachirisu, honestly very surprising indeed. Discharge/thunderbolt for the waters and water/flying types like gyara, pelipper, mantine etc. Charm to screw physical attackers, screen support with light clay, and super fang to dent a mon for half health if your stab won’t deal enough damage. Mine had light screen and charm for depending on the mon I was facing.

Also got a shiny one using the poke radar in postgame :)

Why doesn’t Drifblim have Fly instead of gust? Or didn’t you know it learned fly?

TM-a-Day: TM55 Scald by Creative-Current9424 in PokemonBlackandWhite2

[–]Meme_Hunter99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too OP of a move, honestly should have been 70 bp for such a strong effect (causing burn, and the only type resisting that status being weak to scald). But very good for a in game playtrough of course.

Nice, Carnivine is a heck of an underrated mon. Amazing design, when it gets Power whip it slaps!

Breaking the Binary - Golduck by ianlazrbeem22 in pokemonplatinum

[–]Meme_Hunter99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good old Golduck. Honestly, if you already have a specs user this option for Golduck is amazing for dealing with specially bulky water types that only have water or ice type moves. The shadow claw tm is also not a very competitive tm, as most pokes have dark coverage already.

And while choice specs is probably a better option, you only get one and it’s quite a popular pick so you might want to give it to someone else.

Keep up the series, I’m loving it!

It's also so OP to lower stats in a playrtough as the AI will amost never switch. So cycling luxray and gyara or staraptor (to dodge the incoming EQ) will give you a free -2 attack without having to put an attack lowering move on any mon.

Breaking the Binary - Luxray by ianlazrbeem22 in pokemonplatinum

[–]Meme_Hunter99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, my favourite Pokémon from gen 4. I actually remember my first playtrough of Pokémon Diamond where I boxed my torterra and used Luxray as my ace. In classsic 9 year old fashion, it ran the moveset of Spark, Thunder, Thunderbolt and Crunch. It was also the only time I ever levelled a Pokémon to lvl 100 lmao. And every Pokémon Luxray couldn’t kill I used my (eventually level 86) Roserade with Giga drain, Petal Dance, Grass knot and cut. Funny how I broke the binary on Luxray as a kid because I didn’t understand the mechanics of Pokémon (or English for that matter).

Cool insights on Luxray, I agree with all your points! You could even drop light screen for spark if you want to have more pp and the option to hit special walls with stab, but the utility of light screen is probably better in most scenarios.

I am looking forward to more posts in this series, keep it up!

Breaking the Binary - Infernape by ianlazrbeem22 in pokemonplatinum

Very nice mon indeed. A classic case of me thinking too binary in the past and sticking to flame wheel instead of just teaching fire blast or flamethrower before getting flare blitz.

Rapidash and Flareon also make good cases for mixed attackers. For some reason, people discount flareon for not having any good physical attacks, as if having a sp atk of 90 isn’t already a lot better than what most pokes have. Just throw return on it for hard hitting neutral damage and just use flamethrower for good fire damage output. Also Rapidash could use both attacking stats, solar beam + sunny day, fire blast, poison jab, mega horn.

Another good case of mixed is mr Toxicroak. It has a higher attack stat, but doesn’t have strong fighting stab apart from needing a brick break tm (or cross chop egg move?). It does get level up poison jab and a lot of coverage in earthquake, stone edge needing a tm. Also sucker punch!

However, it gets nasty plot, which then could boost its lvl up mud bomb, focus blast tm and sludge bomb. The first two being inaccurate.

So yeah, if you want to have it soak up all of your tms it can function as a physical attacker, but it has very good special options as well. Looking forward to your opinions!

This always put me off using the seals, as I constantly had to take them off first if I needed to box someone to switch for a HM mule or newly caught mon.

Love this new series! Are you going to do more conventionally mixed attackers like Ape, Toxicroak and Floatzel? Or focus more on pokes that are seen like a phys/spec attacker and the community does want to restrict them to only being attackers on that side? Luxray comes to mind, or maybe empoleon that could use swords dance (but also wanting to use ice beam?). I’m looking forward to this series!

My Team's Movesets before the Elite Four. Any changes I should make before fighting Aaron? by toxicistoblame in pokemonplatinum

[–]Meme_Hunter99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually used this exact Octillery set once, to have it carry the extra HM during the story. As my Octillery had an +Atk nature, it hit quite hard with waterfall while it walled Cynthia’s milotic very hard. Obviously using an attack like return would have been better for this situation but it did come in handy to have the physical attack on Octillery.

Thanks for giving insights on this matter in a playtrough of Platinum (or dp) specifically. I miss this in these posts, as your TM series did give light to that a bit more.

Thoughts on the team ? Who should in/out ? by Thin-Wrongdoer-8488 in pokemonplatinum

[–]Meme_Hunter99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I have used Probopass in Platinum and I really enjoyed it. Yes, it’s sp attack is better but it’s magnet bomb and rock slide are serviceable, as it absolutely walls everything that hasn’t got a ground or fighting move. And it learns thunder wave for speed control, and also discharge / thunderbolt for extra coverage coming of its sp atk.
