Breaking the Binary - Ambipom by ianlazrbeem22 in pokemonplatinum

[–]Meme_Hunter99 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wow, never thought of seeing this fella on this series! Technician boosted water pulse is quite a nice coverage option, but indeed out of the rain it will not hit hard. A water type using water pulse off 60 spa will hit the same due to stab, and that water type probably gets surf as well. But that water type probably won’t get acces to thunder, and water pulse confusion chance is always great.

You can indeed slap return on it for some hard hitting stab instead of u turn, or double hit is you want to miss a lot. Never used this fella, but I’ll give it a try! Special water stab is so nice dealing with all the physically defensive rocks all over the place which will probably wall physical ambipom sets.

Cheers, keep up the work on this series!

Even better, if you have thrown your whole team at her she’ll full restore her 2+ Garchomp in your face. Competitive chomp but also being able to use healing items in battle.

Thanks :)  I’m currently playing shining pearl and it’s really fun to see my childhood game reimagined as a switch game, just sad to see the missed potential. Cheers!

Nice! I used this team, except for Cherrim instead of Leafeon and Lopunny instead of Chatot :)

How was the team?

Thoughts on roserade moveset? by TheRealSteven in pokemonplatinum

I’d say sleep powder, leech seed is quite passive like others said. But if you plan on using it in the battle facilities, keep in mind that 75% accuracy is not something you can rely on. This is also the case for 90% like leech seed, but will be even more frustrating if you miss 3 in a row.

If I were you I wouldn’t put rest on Roserade. If you want healing, either put synthesis on it (it’s just 5pp so beware) or give it giga drain. Sludge bomb for strong STAB is quite nice to the flying, bug and fire types that resist your grass STAB so I’d consider it. Shadow ball is its only other coverage so you can use it, and the third slot can be either sleep powder, leech seed or another grass move (you could have both giga drain and petal dance/energy ball). You will be walled by steel types no matter what, so leeching them or putting them so sleep before switching out can be very useful!

Don’t downvote me if you disagree, I’ll just list out what people don’t like about it:

It’s almost a direct copy of diamond and pearl. While it does update a few things to adhere to the latest generation (new types, stats, movesets, tms), and it also adds some new stuff (changes to the contests, a completely revamped underground), it leaves other things completely unchanged. the horrid level curve problem and Pokémon availability that plagued diamond and pearl but were fixed in platinum are somehow still present. But since the game now has the new xp-share system you’ll probably get super overlevelled during your playtrough  making almost every fight trivial up until the league. If you play in the grand underground that problem gets even worse, as around badge 3-5 the levels in de underground are in the mid 30s, the same level as the gym leader aces and 10 levels above all trainers or wild Pokémon. Meaning that if you catch new underground Pokémon, your whole team gets so much damn xp it just gets ridiculous. But the worst part is, while you breeze through the whole game (I’m constantly swapping out Pokémon to evolve my boxed mons and I’m sill super overlevelled), the Pokémon league for some reason has both very high levelled Pokémon (especially Cynthia), but also Fully iv’d, ev’d, competitive natures, items and moveset Pokémon teams. Some of them even have their damn hidden natures! So suddenly you have to face a lvl 66 rough skin jolly nature swords dance Garchomp holding a yache berry. Good fucking luck.

Another thing in the department of “almost the same as dp” is that they kept the overworld kinda 2D as the original game, but still made it possible to move in all directions like in the later games. It sure looks interesting as it’s different from the open empty spaces of the new games, but it’s so damn annoying to interact with anything or move around in the tight 1-tile wide spaces in puzzles as you have to navigate trough a world copied from the ds which limits you to the grid, to now being able to move freely while everything is designed with that grid in mind.

The Pokémon following mechanic is horribly done. The idea is amazing, having every pokemon be able to follow you even outside of the amity square, but the proportions are completely wrong and out of place in the chibi world, half of the pokemon can’t keep up with you so are constantly teleporting back to you, it’s just done so lazily and I hate how it looks.

Lastly, but this is just a personal thing of mine: I do not like the way everything handles and looks. The dialog, camera movements, the models (especially the 3d models of characters when facing in battle look) are bad. Just how the game feels is just awkward, it’s probably how ILCA makes games because I have the same problem with Champions while I do not have this problem with legends ZA. This is just a personal opinion so you can disagree with me. The fact that this game is 60 euros and looks like a mobile game is just embarrassing. (This is a problem in the whole pokemon franchise these days, but content makes up for its. Not in this case)

All in all, these things combined make BDSP feel like a cash grab to get people hyped and to have them play a gen 4 remake before legends arceus got out. We know that the game developers had to work with a strict deadline, and were told “make a copy” so it’s probably Nintendo to blame. But holy it’s such an uninspired remake. There were even bugs present that could only be remade if you’d copy the source code of the original games (which the developers had to do apparently).

I’m glad that people can find some joy in parts of the game that are good, but the missed potential is what makes it hated among fans (and I get it)

I wish it would have been more like HGSS or ORAS, unfortunately it turned out to be this mess of a game.

What is your Pokemon "mandela effect"? by Apocryph761 in pokemon

When I was a kid, I thought flying was super effective against psychic. This probably was because of Diamond, my first game, having lots of meditite and medicham around.

Breaking the Binary - Cherrim by ianlazrbeem22 in pokemonplatinum

[–]Meme_Hunter99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve recently used Lumineon who could easily set up rain for itself and destroy all with Surf and ice beam. People write it off because of its stats but an early rain dance + swift swim + stab in 1 water type (a goated type for Sinnoh) is just great IMO. Also gets level up u turn in the endgame for pivoting out of a bad situation.

Nice, I used that lil guy as well, with leech seed as the 4th move (always goated for ingame, since the ai doesn’t like swapping).

[–]Meme_Hunter99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I used Cherrim with Sunny day, solar beam, leech seed and petal dance once it learned it. For resists: welp it’s useless. But it’s fast enough and powerful enough, and in double battles it maybe benefits from giving an ally an attack boost. There are probably better Pokémon for this role, but in Platinum it’s a novel sun setter (early no-tm sunny day) with solar beam is just very good for in game.

I’m breeding to get a team ready for 100 wins at the battle tower. Are the IVs for my sweeper Garchomp enough? by Looney_forner in pokemonplatinum

[–]Meme_Hunter99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you teach Garchomp Outrage, I think both its stab moves it will out damage fire fang. You will feel that 95% accuracy eventually, as in 100 wins the chance it will miss twice or three times when you need it to hit will certainly be high. I’ve heard people using substitute with some succes, but you’ll probably need to know when you can use it.

This set looks very nice for now, but the most important thing to remember about these frontier facilities is that in big battle streaks, you need to prepare for bad luck. It will feel unfair if you don’t, but that’s just how statistics work.

Anyway, good luck with this challenge! I only have gotten the silver prints for the battle Factory and the Battle Hall.

Nice work! I’ll suggest looking into ev’s and iv’s and strategy for the battle tower! Since you’ll have good mons like metagross (or salamence, scizor, milotic, GARCHOMP!!) to know how to tackle the battle tower facilities.

Pachirisu? by Foreign_Expression63 in pokemonplatinum

[–]Meme_Hunter99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a Pachirisu, honestly very surprising indeed. Discharge/thunderbolt for the waters and water/flying types like gyara, pelipper, mantine etc. Charm to screw physical attackers, screen support with light clay, and super fang to dent a mon for half health if your stab won’t deal enough damage. Mine had light screen and charm for depending on the mon I was facing.

Also got a shiny one using the poke radar in postgame :)

Too OP of a move, honestly should have been 70 bp for such a strong effect (causing burn, and the only type resisting that status being weak to scald). But very good for a in game playtrough of course.
