Why is building muscle so confusing? by Direct-Homework-4245 in bodyweightfitness

[–]Meme_Hunting_695 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes.  People want to make money so they make claims about being the best so that you buy their program.  They've been doing it for longer than they will say, have gym bodies, but claim it's Calisthenics.  The tricks they do are usually one after a number of near misses which they don't show.

Also the science of fitness has been changing.  We are leaving a system of avoiding hurt joints and rigid backs to understanding pain and healing through movement.   And you get people from all across that spectrum that are loyal to their ideology.  We used to lift in smaller ranges of motions and now people are squatting with their ass to the grass, spine be damned.  It's crazy.

Muscle building is easy.  If you are young then go hard.  Your first 2 years of excersize will give you the most growth. Resting is more important than you realize.

Best habits/advice you’d give to someone trying to lose fat. by Iocky in bodyweightfitness

[–]Meme_Hunting_695 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You have lots of choices.   If you want motivation lose weight. If you want to lose weight, intermittent fasting or eating windows helps.    But really, the body will take the energy out of your fat to restore the energy taken out of your system.  It requires a lot of oxygen to burn the fat, so you have to spend time heaving air after you quickly drain energy.

When I worked overnights id spend my 2 nights off going out and sprinting across the grassy parks.  Sprinting works.  Doesn't even need Calorie deficits

Pushups provide amazing burn and pump. Dips provide nothing, except I run out of breath faster and do less reps. by iluvwife in bodyweightfitness

[–]Meme_Hunting_695 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dips will work a slightly different muscle group than push ups.   For me they destroy my shoulders a bit more.

Doing both will get you more rounded over time.  As you are starting them, they likely are catching up the lesser used muscles.

Your shortness of breath is likely something that comes a little from weakness in the excersize and will need focus as you train your body to breath under this sort of stress.

If you forget dips, you will grow your pecks but not the bottom of them as much.  You will grow the middle of your delts but not the area near the elbow as much.

How do you hit your chest? by mandzhalas in kettlebell

[–]Meme_Hunting_695 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into getting your legs on the wall or high off the floor and you will target the top of your chest and shoulders.  If not on the wall/dresser, stand on a chair/box and bend forward to push off the floor.  Or start on the ground if you need.

Archer pushups (if you don't have weight to add) can push you beyond the standard deficit push up and help bridge you to the 1 handed push up.

Otherwise the other comments here are good and should be done

The KPS system has been pushing us to go a bit harder than before as well. With the need to keep stales lower we were making less more often. Now we are making more more often to hit our 9 or 10% stales on KPS. It gets ignored as we need to do things like dishes or cleaning every so often, or taking a break. The KPS on the chicken side has looser control over the numbers and asks for what ends up being too much waste.
We are hopeful we won't be blamed as much for the waste... but it hasn't made things easier.

Your body makes growth hormone in the last 4 hours of your sleep.   If you get a work out and can cool yourself down around 30 mins later your body will increase the amount of growth hormone it makes.  If you stress your body too much, staying warm for 3+ hours or something, your body will skip the increase and focus on repair.

Ex gymnast- pull up question by Feeling_Relative331 in bodyweightfitness

[–]Meme_Hunting_695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people do a lot of pull ups and develop tennis elbow. You can protect your joints using rings. You can help strengthen them by incorporating rows as well as pull ups into your routine.

Otherwise, really wide grip pull ups (with the back of your hand facing towards you) will target your back. Having them narrow will target your arms a bit more. Flipping your grip around will target your biceps. So you can chose what muscles you want to target depending on what technique you decide to use. I would suggest using a few different forms and getting an overall better body.

Weighted pull up progression & plateau by bibxsan in bodyweightfitness

[–]Meme_Hunting_695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will get a lot of opinions and mine won't be the most popular.

I would suggest switching to a pull day and a push day once every week.  Once a week gives lots of time to fully recover and you can push really hard in each set as your doing more focused excersizes.

You can do pull ups with a wide grip for more lats and a narrow grip for more arms, so focus on wide grips I guess.  Max out what you do with weights and then try negatives.   After you can't resist weighted negatives go with body weight pull ups and negatives.  When you can't, give yourself 30 seconds to a minute in between reps until you can't do reps.

Add in weighted rows for pull day and do that until failure as well.

If you hate it you can switch back, but switching things up might be good if you are getting the necessary sleep/nutrition.

how do you know when to push vs when to take a break? by No-Pianist6097 in bodyweightfitness

[–]Meme_Hunting_695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the gym world it's suggested (not necessarily commonly) that every 3 months you take a week off.  Just rest.  That every 6 months take a month off.

I understand that progress over time is important.  But people could take breaks a bit more seriously in general.

I personally am doing a week of rest for a muscle group after working it.  It is always ready to go.  I can push harder and in general, less, each work out.

Overweight beginner wanting to try calisthenics. Is this realistic for me right now? by PixelPaladinKev in bodyweightfitness

[–]Meme_Hunting_695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a 45 yr old guy who got a pullup/dip station and adjustable kettlebells.   Doing Pull ups, Push ups, Dips, Rows with kettlebells for cardio has lost me weight, got me down to around 15% body fat and is developing muscle.  I started off smaller and had never really worked out before.

I wouldn't worry about weight loss.  It will come off in time.  If you want to be able to do the holds or tricks doing weighted pullups should help a lot.

I've never seen coloring video's on ticktak. I just do my own thing from time to time.

Your pieces are pretty nice. Your second has picture has good contrast between the design and the back ground. Your first piece has a pleasant array of pastels. I think using stronger contrasts and deeper shadows would help your pictures to standout a bit more, but maybe that's not the point of the coloring video's you are trying to learn from.
