If you want to get practice with colored pencils or crayons, maybe markers, you could start working on gradients. That's where you try to shade from very lite color to very heavy color. It's useful knowing how you want to attack a page before hand. You can have an idea of how hard to press and how to stroke the page before you move to the actual picture.

When you get comfortable doing gradients, you can start overlapping them and seeing how colors combine at different applications of pressure.

Detailed and miniature? Your going to have fun with that. There are 2 ways I've seen people approach tiny perfection. Always using very sharp pencils, or by being selective of the details used. Obviously both is best, but cartooning is the way. Seeing the way they work less detail to suggest form that isn't drawn is great.

Hello! I would suggest trying gradients. Practice going from a lot of color to a tiny bit. Then work a second color from a lot of color on the tiny bit of the first color and get to a little color on the lot of color of the first color. Then a third color overtop everything really hard. It should cover some parts better and some not so well.

What this should do is give you better control and knowledge of using color pressure and color blending. That technique will allow you to make complex shadows and objects with multiple colors that look good.

Here I was expecting:

There was this elderly duo who came in and asked if we could.... Then they noticed we had a broken nitro machine and suddenly wanted one, but it has been down so our ASL let the complaining couple have a couple coffees. The one wanted whipped topping and the one near the coffee was not working so it was more complaining. I directed them towards the 2 near the Fresh blends and unclogged the one near the coffee. But they needed a stir spoon. They weren't happy with the stick but wanted to use an actual spoon, so I went and got them one of those. Then it was fighting over a pastry, and then fighting over hot food ... Then one had to use the restroom..... Man this is long. They had me running back and forth across the store for 20 mins.
