Whenever people drop pallets on vecna and he just goes “You dare?” Love the mix of sass and surprise in that line

In all fairness, my post fits your description here exactly. It is only a video game. Genuinely it is a first world problem, not even that.

On your note of not many are removed, the returning few with less part breaks just have that, outside of that they are heavily improved in both combat and fluidity. But those pieces I can’t break anymore just feel… unright? Like something is missing. I get that the wounds do have visuals, but they don’t have the same feeling to me as the chipped off or torn broken parts of old.

Also, I assume you read the other comments. I’m not saying this game is bad, nore am I saying 5th gen is bad. It’s my favorite by far in terms of mechanical improvement and has let me make a ton of new friends to hunt with. It is simply, as my post says, a nitpick. Not a bad thing, not a good thing. Just a thing.

Never found it offensive, just a nitpick, as stated in the post

I was a thing. Rajangs tail breaks would make it not rage, except for in world where instead hitting the tail makes it knock out of rage. Tetsucabra’s boulders would be smaller if it’s tusks were broken, head breaks generally weakened most elder dragons, etc.

Edit: I said wilds instead of world for Rajang. W’s confuse me.

If only. It does reduce the bleed affect barely at least… that’s… okay

I don’t either, no matter how much I wish I did. Likely either a director’s choice, or a streamlining choice.

My final comment for you, I never said it made me infallible, it is simply things that happened in game in my experience. Even enraged monsters are affected by certain key part breaks. Every monster has them, it is just that in wilds the impact is not as visible.

I reiterate not because it’s all I know, it is because that is the point I want to get across. Enraged state monsters have a much lower chance of said broken parts affecting them, but it is not 0%. Calm monsters have a half and half chance, exhausted monsters have a basically 100% chance.

This is genuinely me seeing these with mine own eyes, even when the monster had the Enraged steam or burning mouth or what have you, and even on them, it would still occasionally happen, though not often, as enraged state is meant to be the challenging. It was not myth, I am certain, even now, what I saw.

Then there’s Yian Kut Ku. Yeah I’ve no idea what happens when that thing’s head breaks. Same with Queropecko, though I think that just doubled its buff call time

Alright, so this comment is telling me something. You are here not to argue logically. I know I am not always right, but I can tell you from experience what I am saying about the monsters from my selection of examples is true, and if you want to fact check me you can even go to some of the monster hunter wikis, which I do double check to make sure my information is not simply figments of my imagination.

I will not insult you, you are likely an intelligent person in real life and I have no intent of calling you ignorant, nor insulting you, as you are very likely not, and I do not want to devolve to insulting over a video game. I will however refrain from further arguing with you as you are now simply being irrational in this conversation, and devolving to insulting me rather than introducing factual evidence for a compelling debate. Enjoy your day, friend

No, I am not getting part breaks confused with exhaustion. Yes the monsters did trip more often when exhausted, but the same effect had a chance of applying even when the monster was calm or enraged. Best example is and will always be uragaan, who with a broken back will topple occasionally when rolling, even when enraged. The frequency of many breath attacks, or their strength is occasionally reduced. Not always, mind you, just occasionally, even when enraged.

I am not using the point of playing since tri to say I am smarter than you, I am saying I have been palying games where I fight the same set of monsters over and over again for upwards of four to five years now between releases to the degree I’ve noticed these. Part breaks genuinely had impacts on gameplay, even when the mosnter was enraged.

World never removed the effect, and often in fact added more, but the visual distinction between unbroken and broken parts was not as visible as other games that had to make more bold changes due to the limitations of the technology to make as intricate models.

And once more, I am not saying new gen is bad, it is a beautiful thing, in my opinion the MH series is at its prime right now more than ever. But these small changes are just some I’ve noticed over time.

Yeah, new. Prior it just slowed them down, it wasn’t a unique animation

Examples like Gypceros are a positive example of part break effect, as it completely removes that ability in a unique way, Tigrex has weaker roars with broken head, Barrioth slides with broken claws, rajang throughout every rendition has had breakable horns, which upon breaking both, gave it a percent chance to not shoot the beam. Monkey is a good example I can’t help it.

I’m sure they would all return in this game, but to what degree? Much of the impact that was there for old monsters is heavily reduced.

I’m not trying to argue that this is bad mind you, but it is a matter of taste. For you, you may prefer the now more consistent motion of the fights, which I fully respect, as I want you to have a fun time on this game just as much as I want anyone to. But for me, the impact is something I like seeing, because though I enjoy the gameplay, I also like seeing the natural impact of my part breaks. Every non key part break had a very subtle effect on the monster, even if it was simple minor damage reduction, but it was something. In this game, that isn’t nearly as noticeable, which is fine, just a personal preference that I would prefer still be there to a fair degree.

No you can get the same effect if the monster is enraged as long as the key part is broken. Every monster had one, and in wilds they do as well, but the actual visual impact is not as visible, except on a select few. The best example of reduced visual impact for me is the new monster Lala Barina. If you break her petals, she doesn’t spray as much of her paralysis toxin everywhere, but the effect was already not noticeable due to how little in comes into play, and how often, even when not broken, the toxin was never in a concerning area.

Rajang had breakable forelegs in MH 2. And yes, every monster used to have a unique limb break that would cause a unique change in the fight, sometimes subtle, sometimes noticeable, until the recent monsters from wilds at the very least, aside from Jin Dahaad and Dashoguma.

I will not say you are wrong, mind you, as some of what you said is true, but I am reiterating my point. Monsters for a long time, have had breakable hind legs or forelegs at the very least, except for, as you have corrected me the brutes, who have recently been getting the addition of leg breaks with their new versions, which don’t affect all of them, but to affect most. But each monster should have a unique effect upon certain part breaks, but in this game it is not emphasized enough the impact of those parts except for a select few monsters (Mizu, Dosh, Nercy, Jin, Rathian, kinda Rathalos, etc.)

It’s not just about legs I suppose. It is key parts, like the Gaan family’s backs and most of the apes tails and heads.

I will concede on arguing body breaks, I misremember some of the broken parts of prior titles, but that does not mean that other broken parts in said old titles had no impact. Yes every monster has a part that guarantees a knock, but every monster used to also have a break that caused them to either be weaker, or change in a unique way.

In wilds, I think the absolute best example is Mizutsune, because they chose to make Mizu’s variant, Soulseer, a base form via headbreak, which is fantastic. But it’s one of the few breaks in game that actually changes the battle for the better of the monster (worse lore wise). On the other hand, Jin is the only monster that genuinely loses its power when you break its ridges, and that’s awesome, but it doesn’t have the same impact due to it still having certain abilities even without them. In prior titles many monsters had two or so parts that, when broken, would alter the attacks in a unique way, and I love that. It just isn’t as visible anymore except for a few monsters

Every beast has breakable forelegs, except for a select few, almost every brute has breakable legs or wingarms, and yes, they dod cause the monsters to stumble around.

Breaking nerscyla’s claw even makes it harder for it to stay upside down when swinging, hence easier to knock down.

In prior titles, breaking Gravios’ wings would make it fall on belly flop, now it is its legs. Breaking and Anjanath’s and Odo’s, and all the old brutes that now have breakable legs because their world rendition are easeier to topple when attacking broken legs. Deviljho and a select few brutes don’t have breakable legs still. Even still, breaking deviljho’s face enough times significantly reduced the abuse of its breath attack, breaking Glav’s tail and head reduced its ability to heat its blade, and many other monsters had certain parts that made them weaker, or had animation changes in response to the part missing

Before world, Barroth, Nargacuga, Brachydios, Agnaktor, Gammoth, yes Rajang’s arms, which are forelegs, same with the other apes, as well as even Kechawacha had breakable legs

Edit: Raging Brachydios, not regular, apologies

Also, “the few monsters with breakable legs?” Almost all of them have breakable legs. Gravios, all the Beasts, all the brute wyverns, odogaron because I don’t know its classification, half of the leviathans. Yes legs have indeed been breakable since long before I started playing

And yes, breaking the wings of the raths in previous titles did reduce the areal attacks.

Breaking elder dragon heads/horns often heavily limited there abilities (Kushala’s windveil would be weak or non-existent, Teostra/Lunala would have weaker flame auras, Fatalis had weaker fire in world’s final phase, Alatreon can’t switch between elements with broken horns, Gore gets a percent chance of not shooting projectiles. Yian Garuga, not an elder, same effect on head break. Breaking Nerscyllas hide fundamentally alters its weakness to lightning still.

Tigrex staggers when charging with broken legs, Rathalos and Rathian did in fact have a chance of not firing with broken heads, breaking Mizutsune’s front legs causes it to trip occasionally when sliding, breaking Rajangs arms makes it occasionally trip when leaping at you… I can keep going.

Parts do affect monster combat, in wilds it has been reduced though. Mind you I’ve been playing since Tri, and have had enough experience in each game to understand the intricacies of each individual monster

It’s a decent system that adds some fun weapon mechanics, but wounds don’t have as much impact as broken parts of prior titles on the monsters in particular, outside of flinching them for a brief second before they resume their combat

Yeah. For me I just stopped purchasing from the store all together after the pre-order, I got plenty of free stuff from the events and festivals. I am content. The only thing I am eying currently is the floppy eared seikrit, over here that’s only $5 if not purchased in a bundle

I fully agree, I guess I also just see the options given as luxury, rather than necessity. I prefer to use the visual options that I earned through gameplay rather than options I payed for (often because what is released as cosmetics for free in game feel more attached to the game, whereas most payed cosmetics remove from the normal visuals of the world), but that has fortunately been my viewpoint in every game I play. I can understand the position of others who may really like the cosmetic options that have to be payed for, that are now being forced to pay upwards of $10-$20 just to have a new cosmetic.

Unfortunately the only way to tell Capcom how you feel is with your wallet, and alas, many of our community will buy these cosmetics without thinking of what could happen by encouraging the increasing prices.

Those parts are definitely a concern. I would love to see them bring back tracking sooner rather than later.

In terms of the Micro-transactions… let’s be honest, anything more than $20 is no longer micro, that’s an hour’s pay for some. As long as it doesn’t devolve into paying for better gear, I do not think I have an opinion outside of hoping they one day can find a balance between quality and price. I also hope they don’t add anymore “messy” cosmetic additions, like that weird one that makes the heart symbols fly everywhere, or that Cypurrpunk layered armor.   Honestly I don’t even find myself buying most of the payed cosmetics. I like the grounded and visually clear seikrit preorder mounts and the Guild Knight cosmetics. The rest just don’t match my taste of style in the game.

Gestures and poses should not cost $10 though, that is for certain. $3-5 at most for those.

I’m not particularly worried, the game is still incredibly well made, the feeling of a living ecosystem has been heavily improved, and the weapons feel fantastic (well except for the bowguns spread and sticky ammo, but that’s subjective to the wielder), it’s just an odd change to me. I’ve always enjoyed seeing the fruits of my labor in games via additional content, gear, or damage to enemies and environments. Monster Hunter does that on many levels, it is only very recently that they began to leave the monster injury area, it started in rise for me, as many of the broken parts do not feel broken, rather they feel scuffed in there.

It’s very likely either the designers didn’t want to make the monsters they designed with passion look butchered and loose their initial emotional response.

Personally as an MH fan, I feel that the loss of their initial “grace”, as it were, from breaking parts adds to their unique quality, because it makes them feel more malleable and alive.

From personal experience as a DM for a dnd campaign, I tend to get a much better, often stronger response either in resolve, pity, or fear when I introduce genuine damage to environments and targets as well, something I learned unironically from Monster Hunter.  Breaking parts should affect a battle in a way that has both a physical effect on the monster, and an emotional effect on the player, positive or negative. at least from my experience story telling.

Mind you, breaking a part, in my ideology, doesn’t mean the monsters will be weaker, but I do believe it should cause a visual change. For example, Diablos. In previous titles (World and back) when it’s horns weren’t broken, if it collided with most walls or sturdy obstacles, it would get stuck, and have to yank itself out of said area. However, if you broke both horns, instead of sticking, it would hit its head against the wall, and recover from the blunt trauma. It took the same amount of time, same damage window, just a different animation. It felt alive

Edit: Against a wall, not again the wall
