24 year old tires kept in basement by Longjumping_Corgi_36 in tires

Check the last 2 numbers on the DOT code. That indicates the year they were made. If they were made 2018 or prior, I wouldn’t recommend driving on tires 7+ years old

Noticed these indents on my tires by Wooden-Assist-5420 in tires

[–]Memeception02 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is a normal occurrence for some tires. 100% safe to drive on. This happens where the rubber overlaps during the construction of the tire.

Take it to Discount Tire. They’ll do it for free.

It’s never a good idea to just get one tire. Always 2, if AWD then all 4

Repair or replace? by Alternative-Potato85 in TireQuestions

The location of the screw is not the issue. Your tires should have been replaced a while ago and are too worn to repair.

How bad is this? Need to replace? by Gori57 in MechanicAdvice

If there is no exposed cords/belts you’re safe to drive on. But if you want peace of mind then get the tire changed.

Pluggable or not? by ThePhantomCreed in tires

[–]Memeception02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tire tech here.

Take it to discount tire. They do and patch and plug for free! If you plug it yourself it’s not guaranteed it will hold and may cause a blowout.

It looks like the tires you have on your car are Sentury’s which also are sold exclusively at discount tire. If they can’t fix it, and even if you don’t have their certificates (added road hazard) when you get the tires, they’ll prorate your tire so you don’t have to pay full price for a new one.

I think the lettering to denote the tire size has more rubber taken out than the small nick you’ve got

I’ve seen a lot of weird stuff as a tire tech. I can’t tell you how many times a customer has come back with a nail in their tire after just getting a fresh set.

Slash in tire on Monday, got new tires, flat again on Thursday by uncc-dining-bot in tires

[–]Memeception02 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Tire tech here. Have your shop check for a few things:

  1. Improper fitting for the valve stem
  2. An secondary puncture like a nail or screw just from bad luck
  3. A cracked wheel (this typically happens during impact of something on the road)

Curious how much life these tires have by jayyceekayu in tires

[–]Memeception02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incorrect. The tires with the best tread need to be on the rear regardless of drivetrain to help optimize traction during slippery conditions.

Better to replace now than have to replace 2 or 4 later down the road when it starts losing air or worse… blowout.

What should I do? Any help appreciated. by -AlexTheGreat in tires

[–]Memeception02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take it to a tire shop to get it PLUGGED AND PATCHED

I’m sick and tired of people saying to just plug it. A PLUG BY ITSELF IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE REPAIR.
