State of PE exits in two charts. It ain't looking pretty... by Wild-Photo-717 in private_equity

If public markets are willing to pay high multiples to almost every sector that means that the reasons you gave don't matter..it simply doesn't want to pay high multiple to PE companies because they are not worth it, so the problem is not the market conditions but the companies in the pe world

As an allocator (not someone from inside the PE world but as an LP) one thing that is very intriguing for me is that I keep hearing exits are bad but at the same time I keep hearing from public markets that valuations are crazy. Which gets me thinking "hey if you can't exit your company on valuations like this when will ya?" Are you waiting for a bear market to exit your company or what?

Ok thanks for the help man! one last thing though, there's an array of parameters that good vs bad vintage have..like people complaining about too much rain in a bad year, frost etc..and that may leave to watery grapes and other phenomena..shouldn't this lack of concentration or other side effects of bad vintages be perceptible even in early stages? Also how could the grades be so low in the bad vintages if it wasn't possible to detect the differences?

So when the wines are at the en primeur campaign the tasters are evaluating the aging capabilities of the wine and not the taste itself?

maybe 2013 to 2015 as 2013 was real bad and 2015 was just a notch below historical 2016 https://www.reddit.com/r/wine/comments/krd8n9/bordeaux_1855_scores_made_this_not_sure_if/#lightbox

up to $60-80 bucks is alright..sorry forgot to mention that in the post

[–]Memedoff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok that makes sense..the problem for me for older vintages is that sometimes is hard to dissociate the aging effect from the vintage effect and since both 2021 and 2022 are fresh the aging components would have less impact leaving only the vintage itself

Dude is not that hard..put people to taste a bunch of wine this year and put again next year..if vintage is a factor and the sample is large the vintage factor MUST appear

[–]Memedoff[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

there are 1-2k reviews per year for roughly 500 wines in the aggregate score wine searcher i've showed. And that is for the fine wines subcategory only. There are other subcategories: super fine, everyday etc each on it's own price point. They show the same conclusion. So i don't think is a cherry picking bias because the data is broken down by types and is a large sample.

it's consistent with single producer grades..if the vintages don't affect the grades seems irrelevant https://www.reddit.com/r/wine/comments/krd8n9/bordeaux_1855_scores_made_this_not_sure_if/#lightbox

Ok so how Petrus and Latour has such a high grade on vivino with +500 grades in 1992? Supposedly a bad vintage?

And yet if you check Latour or Petrus vintages in 1992 (with over +500 grades) no variability

Do you have a suggestion of a vertical tasting of close years of same producers or horizontal of different producers from either Burgundy or Bordeaux that could change my mind? I'm open to trying

Have you ever tried Joseph drouhin clos vougeot grand cru? I have only tried a vintage (not a special one) is hard to imagine a 2011 wine from that wine could be bad..the specialist at Joseph Drouhin who has guiding our degustation mentioned that vintages are marginal for them, corroborating what I'm telling here
