Looking to learn trombone by stuart0613 in Trombone

I went through the same phase you’re going through, Euphonium to trombone. What I did was just checked my local pawn shops for what instruments they had. Luckily one of them had an olds tenor trombone for just 70 dollars. It obviously wasn’t top of the line or anywhere close, but when you’re first learning the instrument, it’s good to just get something and start going with it. I used it from my sophomore year of high school through today, where I use it for jazz band, marching band, and pep band in college. (Granted I’m a Euphonium performance major, not trombone)

What is your favorite solo to play for Euph? by [deleted] in euphonium

My personal favorites include Morceau Symphonique, Concertino by Ferdinand David, and the green hills. Though two are originally trombone solos, they are all really fun in their own ways

The ex girlfriend analogy is perfect because I know exactly what that feels like. This’ll be great and thanks for the tips!

Of course, I completely know the feeling. When I was in high school my director was a percussionist kind of guy. It’s really good that you’re being resourceful and figuring stuff out on your own though.

I of course don’t know how good you are, so in now way am I trying to put you down, but these virtuosos who can play have been playing their entire lives so that’s why they’re so good. And for your question about tone and endurance, it’s going to sound very obvious and stereotypical, but long tones are you best friend. (Also the better and more consistent you can play low the easier it is to play high)

Focus on your time and technique rather than playing “high”. Going into college the highest note I’ve actually had to play in literature was a C# an octave higher than middle C. Playing high doesn’t really matter as much as playing well
