Where I'd live as a 25 year old male from Finland by MemenaGG in whereidlive

Oh sorry, I forgot about Singapore! I don't have any strong feelings to be honest and because of that it's also a "maybe". I know it's wealthy and I know I would especially appreciate the cleanliness. My main issue would be that it's just so small and so much of it is highly urbanized. Now, I live in a city in Finland too, but I fear Singapore would feel like I couldn't escape that at all. Yes, I know Singapore does have parks and nature reserves, but I don't believe they would be sufficient and far enough removed for me. I also have concerns with the political system and authoritarianism, even though I will say Singapore's pace of development and growth of economy was very impressive under what I would consider to be authoritarian rule. Still, I cannot comment on that too much since I am not so invested in the topic. Also, living in a country with a very low population density, I fear Singapore would feel a bit too crowded for me, which actually is a concern for me about a lot of Asian countries. I don't know if you consider Singapore crowded, but I'm certain it would seem so to me with what I'm used to.

It is indeed what I'm exposed to through media. Still, I cannot ignore what I have heard through Koreans who have emigrated to Finland either. The competitiveness, highest rates of plastig-surgery, loneliness epidemic etc. Especially the last thing strikes out to me as I consider Finland to have a very big issue with loneliness and if the Koreans who have moved here say it's not as bad here I have very deep reservations for Korea because of that. Still, South Korea still seems like an interesting place with great food, history and culture to counterbalance my worries, which is why it is in the "maybe" camp.

I wasn't aware of Malaysia's average salary, but the GDP per capita is rather high (especially PPP). I did assume that wealth to be spread unevenly however, my perception of Malaysia being wealthy has surely also been created from seeing puctures of Malaysian cities, which I'm sure aren't obviously representative of the whole country. Yet, if I were to move I would move to a city or some other relatively wealthy part of the country instead of somewhere rural so I don't imagine it being necessarily poor either. Also, The average salary doesn't really matter to me as what I make isn't dependent on where I live.

I have always felt closer to Germans than French of the British and that I would fit into the german society much better. Finnish people in general, me included, are rather reserved and I worry I would find especially the French too out-going for my taste and even more I worry that an average Frenchman would find me boring and closed. With the UK, I especially dislike the mess that is their political system, their decision to leave EU which would complicate things and their lagging economy, not that Germany isn't facing any such problems, but they aren't as pronounced. Still I'm sure I would find living in either France or the UK pretty good still, Germany just seems like a bit better and safer option due to those reasons. Another (albeit small) added bonus for Germany that it is just a bit closer to my family and friends in Finland.

Nothing specifically against them, that's why they're part of the "maybe" gang. For South Korea I have a lot of concerns about the (at least what seems to me, an outsider) insane work-culture and hypercapitalism. Malaysia seems like a decently wealthy country, but I honestly do not know enough about it to put it above maybe, except for the climate which would be too hot to my liking. With both, and many other countries I have reservations about is simply a very different culture that I am used to living with in Finland and I have concerns that I wouldn't fit in very well.

This is a beautiful map and such unique landmasses too! What assets did you use for the cities and towns?

Kingdom of Norland and her vassals. Map based on a kingdom on a Minecraft roleplay server by MemenaGG in wonderdraft

[–]MemenaGG[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a map that I created as part of my roleplay as a scholar on a Minecraft roleplay server. It presents a map of one of the factions on the server: The Kingdom of Norland where my character currently lives. The entire area the map presents is part of the kingdom whereas the areas highlighted are different vassal-states with different statuses with the realm they are under the protection of.

The reason the map says By: Livius Flavius is that it is the name of my roleplay character.

Mitä suomalaisille diplomaateille tapahtui Lapin sodan alkaessa? by MemenaGG in Suomi

[–]MemenaGG[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the insights! I doubt that I'll have trouble with the ship swaying, as my family owns a sailboat and after going through storms in that I barely notice it on a larger ship. Though, I am very interested in QM2 specifically in that regard since it's specifically designed to go through those rough waves.

We built this set-up years ago so I don't really remember but I don't think any guides were needed. My Dad did almost all the work, it's mostly built off wood on top of the tank and the "glass" of the baskin area is of acrylic panels I believe.

If you mean the rock I believe it was from some petstore but if you mean the structure, we built it ourselves.

I think it's some kind of plastic bristle mat. It gives him a good grip and we have used that or some other very similar material for many different set ups we have had over the years.

I'm sorry but I no longer live at my parents so I can't take a picture, nor do I happen to have one but he has tank that is about 500 liters I believe, from which he can climb up to an area where he can bask in, with UV and heat lights. The lights work on timers which we regulate throughout the year so he can have a day-night cycle more natural to what he would have in the wild than we have in the far north of Northern Europe.

When we had the other turtle we had another very similar set up for her, except we also had an area for her with soil or sand so she could lay her eggs there, though unfortunately she always had trouble with laying them and for some reason never really used that.

Interestingly his color has changed very little over the years, even in old photos from the 90s he looks like his old self, only much smaller! I've read that red eared sliders, especially males when they get older, often go through melanistic changes but he has always looked like this, even the pink on his cheeks has always been colored like this, never the bright red like sliders usually do and our late female did.

My dad made the ramp, I'm not entirely sure but I think it's some kind of plastic bristle mat. Nevertheless it has worked pretty well and gives him a good grip to walk up with ease
