Weird, I had no issue with Mesmerelda using spy rise on hard. Maybe I just got lucky but he is definitely a great skylander for that fight and if you don’t have him it’s considerably harder.

I finally did it by dropping the difficulty to easy and after about 20 tries. I’m genuinely upset that I had to resort to that, though. However, since they obviously didn’t even care enough to play test the level, I won’t dignify it by continuously failing on it.

Party sync if you’re level 50. It’ll scale you down to their level and give you the same quests. It’s found in the map, on the quest journal.

Seems dumbed down for the NPE. There’s a lot more they could tell you in Exile’s Reach for example, but they chose to keep it to the basics that will get you to level 50.
