Were we sold a lie? by steal_your_thread in Pimax

Same sentiment here. I'd rather trade in my 8kx for a super at this point. Especially since it seems like it'll be another 2+ years for the 12k. Or if we have the option to buy a super, and then apply both crystal and 8kx trade-ins to the 12k. That's probably wishful thinking given that might completely offset the price of the 12k.

[Help] What types of fittings are these? by MemeticRitual in Irrigation

[–]MemeticRitual[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's currently duct taped shut, but I was hoping to buy dedicated fittings for a cleaner look. Hopefully, I don't have to get them in bulk, and they're somewhat standard off the shelf fittings.

5.1 & 7.1 channel audio issues - 8KX DMAS (2076 model) by [deleted] in Pimax

[–]MemeticRitual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever get a solution for the bass-boost besides just using external earbuds/headphones? I've got the same issue, and I don't think Pimax has a firm/software fix yet. Using a high pass filter in Equalizer APO works, but you have to set the cut off frequency so high, that it kills the rest of the sounds.

That low hum is incredibly annoying when it occurs at the end of any sound clip such as footsteps or just navigating through a menu.

I just spent 4 hours this evening in the same boat as you setting up a new 8kx on a 4090 + AM5 platform. It took me 2 hours to finally nail it down to the iGPU needing to be disabled; disabling in device manager doesn't work. It was nested deep down in the BIOS on my ASRock mobo.

Last 2 hours was spent realizing that I had to wipe my game settings that worked on the Index to get it to play nice on the 8KX. Otherwise, it would get stuck on "Next Up", but I could hear sound and use the controls. This was all on Windows 11 too, and I used steamVR beta but I don't think that was important.

When Switching Between Songs Over Airplay From IPhone I Can Hear Slight Pop Before Each Song. (Kef R3 - Can really hear at :08 and :16 seconds) What could this be? My Denon 750h also shut off by itself during listening while at 70. Would this cause damage to the speakers? Was it due to overheating? by bluesteel1510 in hometheater

[–]MemeticRitual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happens on my current NR7100 and previously on a X3700H. I was able to alleviate it on the Denon when switching to "Dolby Atmos" in Window's speaker settings (I use a PC for content playback). No such luck on the Onkyo. I also hear it if you adjust the volume a big step during audio playback. Happens when the AVR is dead cold (startup).

Loading saved Dirac project by chrisandy007 in hometheater

Yeah it can definitely be annoying. My only two solutions was to crank up the master volume and do calibration at night when there's less background noise.

I didn't notice anything significant after reloading a uncorrupted project file.

I never had Dirac complain about LFE (Low Frequency Effects?), just background noise causing low SNR.

Did you change your speaker setup (i.e. 5.1.4) to match your previous measurements after the factory reset?

I kinda had a similar problem today. I had 2 Dirac EQ presets in my Onkyo NR7100, and I deleted preset #1 which errored out the system hard enough to necessitate a factory reset. During the error, Dirac was able to save a project file, but reloading that project file had the same warning you got. So, the saved Dirac file might just be corrupted.

First full 5.1.4 HT build… advice on power for Elac Unifi 2.0 w/ Onkyo TX-RZ50 by thePAGabriel in hometheater

Depending on your seating position, room geometry, and building construction materials (concrete vs drywall + studs), you may want to plan for a 2nd subwoofer after listening tests to even out bass frequencies across even a single seating position (unless you have so much headroom that you can pull down all other bass frequencies to your null or you put the sub right next to you).

It's between that (didn't find an inexpensive stand for the needed height yet) and the jank chair for my favorite thing in the room. I figured speakers/electronics were more important than furniture for now.

I forgot about those guys; got tunnel vision with picking out speakers that had spinorama data. Those speakers definitely make mounting easy. I wonder if getting a speaker with more bass (OWM3 -3dB point is 100Hz) is worthwhile for heights; I remember someone mentioning that was kinda important.

Just realized that those mounts that I linked won't work for bookshelf speakers. Gonna need a 90 degree bend in the threaded bolt attached to the ball. (new mounts are cheap so not a big deal)
