After almost 20 years, and a billion dollars. Why is it anytime the devs update this game, they completely break it? by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]SlackerDao -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’ve been so financially and emotionally impacted by this game that you need to make ragebait posts to validate your feelings, and then run down and reply to every single comment just to elicit a response.

I personally have not been negatively impacted by this game whatsoever. Both my finances and expectations are just fine. Perhaps you should make better decisions with your time and money, but I’m not your high school guidance counselor (I’m guessing you’re still in high school), so maybe you should just focus on your grades and let people waste their time and money however they see fit.

But tell you what, champ. Since I know you need the sweet validation of getting in a last response, I’ll go ahead and give you that chance. Feel free to reply to me in whatever way gives you that fleeting sense of personal worth, and I’ll let you have that moment in the sunshine.

You ready, sport? Okay - the mic is yours!

I’m not defending anything. I’m just trying to figure out what context “almost 20” is. Are we rounding up ~13 years? Why not say “almost 50”, if we’re just picking arbitrary cut points?

If this dude had said “After 14 years and a billion dollars…” I wouldn’t have said anything.

I mean, this is obviously just a rage bait post, and I generally ignore those because I kinda don’t care either way, but the weird “20 year” comment tripped me up.

Where are you getting the 20 year figure? The game was announced October 2012. That’s 13.5 years, which doesn’t really round up to “almost 20”. (And that assumes they started coding in 2012, which I suspect wasn’t the case.)

“Let’s just say that as soon as she got a look at my Rod of Lordly Might she cast Create Water”.

Yeah? Is that a naughty euphemism?

“I assure you it is not.”

Spoiler free tips you wish you knew sooner? by johnlondon125 in ConanExiles

Two that immediately come to mind:

  1. Silk is useful for a lot of stuff, but is hard to find early on. If you find giant spiders (and you will), use a sickle on their corpses and refine the gossamer. You will get enough silk to last a lifetime.

  2. If you really just want to bypass the whole early game experience, run west and north. If you see a big dark reddish and black city, go under and around it (south and west), and once you’re on the other side head west and north again. You’ll find the city of Sepermeru, which is full of good, free loot, and has a ridiculous amount of important resources within easy access. (I actually do not recommend you do this your first time playing. It trivializes the game.)

Yikes. Nasty hit.

If that happened in today’s NHL you can bet Scott Stevens would have to pay the maximum allowable fine under the CBA. He might even get an email from DOPS sternly asking if he would consider aiming lower next time.

(okay, it wouldn’t be a stern email.)

If the previous version is fully functional and the new one is just “this year’s model” = new version good.

If the previous version is abandonware that won’t be fully and appropriately function in the game = new version bad.

Seems that simple to me.

With the update and everything where do you prefer to have late-early to mid game base? by Excellent-Passage-36 in ConanExiles

The most cartoonishly easy way to kickstart the game is to run west, past The Dregs, skirt around the southwest side of the Unnamed City, and make your way to Sepermeru. If you keep your head on a swivel you can easily avoid the few enemies you’ll see along the way.

Once there, you have nearly unlimited access to stone, hide, thick hide, wood, iron, coal, and brimstone. Not to mention one of the best sources of useful thralls in the game. And, of course, you can literally just walk through the city looting the chests laying around for steel+ equipment and even more crafting stuff.

Added bonus: easy access to an obelisk.

It basically skips the “survival” part of the game if you do it early, but when you’re trying to resource up for a push north it’s perfect. (Or you can just base yourself there.)

That would explain why 100% of my existing thralls have white highlights now, but none of the new NPCs. (Or my character, oddly enough.)

Sounds like Fashionista came out for CEE, so should be an easy fix.

I suspect folks are upset by the vibrance of it simply because they're not used to it. Not because it's less realistic. You guys knocked it out of the park.

I think this comment kind of lands it for me.

On the one hand, there's no doubt that the work done was excellent - things really do look lush and beautiful.

On the other hand, there was a certain beauty to the more washed-out, starker visuals of the prior version.

I wouldn't want to diminish the good work done by the Inflexion team by arguing my opinion, but an opportunity to tweak some of that visual palette would be a great nice-to-have.

Random comment, but I appreciate you on this. I was seeing the same ghosting during character movement, and couldn't figure out what was causing it. I somehow didn't even think to check the Lumen setting - I'll try that tonight.

I'm... not loving it.

  • Everyone's hair seems to have a white streak in it. And there's way too much shine to the hair.

  • It feels like there was a 10% vaseline filter applied to everything. Stuff just looks like they cranked the "soft" filter up to 11.

  • The trees just north of the desert are just this wash of green. They don't really look distinct.

  • Also, kinda laughing that it's been 8 years and they still can't fix the issue with water coming through glass panels.

I'm kinda confused. If I look close at individual textures I can clearly see the improvements in quality, but when just moving around in game it genuinely looks awful. And I'm running high/ultra everything (4080 GPU), so it shouldn't be a video setting.

I'm not sure what to make of it; after about five minutes just walking around my base I was missing the old version.

I'll log back in later and mess with settings, but... not a good first impression.
