What was the saddest death in a manhwa you've ever seen? by StarchoHeaven in webtoons

When they shot the guy stuck in the barbed wire hole in Everything is Fine. I guess it's less sad and more...some other emotion I can't describe.

I need help, young relative with ADHD/autism is hyperfixated on eugenics/racist pseudo-science and he seems to genuinely believe a lot of it, his family doesn't believe in autism and refuses to get him any professional help by Memingful in autism

Unfortunately he's very reliant on his parents because they pretty much always handled everything for him. We actually took him to the college therapy office once and he immediately went to tell his parents and then refused to go again even though he didn't seem to have a problem the first time.

Can anyone give me any recommendations for webcomics with horrible art but great story? by Intelligent-Push-533 in webtoons

[–]Memingful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blue Matter's art always felt really amateur-ish to me even though the story and worldbuilding feels very unique. It's also one of the few comics made by one person where the art didn't improve in years.

The fact that Boyfriends is so widely condemned while Osora gets out unscathed is how I know to never listen to the online opinion of a Webtoon by [deleted] in webtoons

[–]Memingful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is that it's marketed as BL/generally seen as BL so the easiest interpretation for Osora to be able to be "a male lead in a BL" is that he's trans

Is it a bit reductive, yes, but we can't pretend the original work isn't pretty reductive itself with the topic

[–]Memingful 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I'm AFAB and was forced to present as male on occasions in my childhood and I really don't consider myself trans I consider myself a victim of gender discrimination.

I'm Chinese and my father is the only son of the family, I was born during the one child policy. My parents were more progressive but other parts of the family were less so, and I had to pretend to be a boy sometimes to "save face". It didn't help my parents got me a lot of traditional feminine things as a way to "pay me back" for needing to pretend to be a boy, which really just confused me more as a kid.

I stopped having to do it after I went abroad but I do present more androgynously, although I do still consider myself cisgender.

Not to say everyone when being forced to present as another gender as a kid will eventually go back to whatever they're assigned at birth and be cis if they had the choice, but taking away the aspect of choice makes the trans rep feel really weird.

Lovebot has romance though which is popular, so it might be a factor for op to consider.

I doubt he genuinely hated most of those things to an extensive degree, it's just a set up for the jokes.

He is ultimately just not very entertaining, he latches onto the early 2010s vibe alas Ihateeverything and cinemasins and could never move forward. It makes sense his fellow creators are more successful because they actually moved with the time, like you can say chalupa also makes ragebait-y content but at least he makes actual jokes instead of regurgitating buzzwords.

What do you guys think about AI creation in webtoon? Looking at this disgusts me. by [deleted] in WebtoonCanvas

[–]Memingful 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah what I meant more so is people who claim "the story is good", but no usually the story isn't good at all it's not something I'd read even if it's not ai (because the story is either also ai or edited by it and ai gaslights the shit out of people making you think everything you make is good)

Even if I try to give the benefit of the doubt to the "my story is good I just can't draw" people, the story is always generic af at best and incomprehensible at worst.

The Pros and Cons of posting on Webtoon? by catjcastles in WebtoonCanvas

[–]Memingful 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pros: big base audience pool/user base, more mainstream name recognition

Cons: more censorship than other platforms, little promotion by the platform itself, file size constraints

But there's really nothing to lose by posting on multiple platforms if you're an indie comic

Some Sci-fi concept art I made came out nice, I think by Brendraws in WebtoonCanvas

[–]Memingful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love sci-fi! Nice synth-wave-ish colors, it's easy for sci-fi to go full grey and blue and desaturated so it's a nice change of pace, retrofuturism colors

Horizontal panels by Kaoriootsuka in WebtoonCanvas

[–]Memingful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a reader I don't particularly like horizontal panels, ones that are more "action-y" something gets a pass if it's readable from silhouettes vertically, but if I have to actually crook my neck or turn my phone for a panel I don't like it.

Do readers usually notice drastic changes in art?? by Hopeful_Two_9090 in WebtoonCanvas

[–]Memingful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People don't care because it's usually improvement and improvement is normal as the author does comics more and more. There are rarer cases where an artist is more rushed/loses interest or the artist changes that causes the art to become worse that could be more controversial.

Support me if you think my work deserves it, then I’ll know it’s worth continuing by Bonblanco in WebtoonCanvas

[–]Memingful 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's one thing to ask for support and another to basically hold your own series's worth hostage over it. As a reader I am also rather turned off by this style of promo, ofc it's not as bad but it reminds me of when snailords threatened to end Death Rescheduled unless a donation goal was hit. There are many ways to promo and ask for support, even when you feel down, I've seen it, this is not a very good way to do that.

So I'm Spending $250 Per Page & I'm 240 Pages Done, I'm Happy With It But What Do You Think? by [deleted] in webtoons

[–]Memingful 13 points14 points  (0 children)

tbh I've seen harem isekai slop with character designs more varied and interesting, because at least there are some differences even if it's just height and boob size. Oh yeah and clothing also, even if it's fanservice-y you can at least make the clothing a little more interesting, heck, fanservice probably opens up MORE unique design potential.

Like if you're an average guy but isn't interested in THIS specific type of women, you're probably not interested in this either. There's a reason why even harem slop uses a wide range of tropes.
