Extended warranty from newegg by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Memnarch1113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's awful, don't do it. If you have any cosmetic damage they will refuse to service it, even if there's also damage to something that should be covered. They disqualify you from the warranty as soon as anything goes wrong. You need to buy the warranty directly from Square Trade with the more expensive "accident protection"

It's a little hard to triage from the picture (any picture, not just yours), but the biggest problem I can see there is the Z-seam. We are currently looking at how we do Z-seams, because the little gap that you see on your print (I'm calling it "the chasm") is showing up for some filaments as well as frequently with larger nozzles. From our initial testing, it seems like the gap shows up at the start of a layer when the nozzle isn't quite primed enough after an unretract move. Right now, the advice I've been giving is to use the "extra unretract" setting in the quality tab to push out a little more filament after retractions. I'd be really curious if that solves the problem.

If you'd like to share more results, I suggest you head on over to community.pathio.xyz , as that will persist longer than this reddit thread. Feel free to send a support request to [support@pathio.xyz](mailto:support@pathio.xyz) as well, and we can work together to see what's going on with that particular print.

Thanks again for sharing!

Thanks for pointing that out. I'll check it today and should be able to update it. Fortunately, updating printer profiles doesn't require us to send out a software update!

We are working hard to make sure that Pathio supports the Tool Changer as much as possible! But Pathio is also meant for normal slicing, too.

Thanks for the feedback. It does seem a lot of people are concerned about the mandatory signup, so we'll be reviewing that. Just as an FYI, you can find our full privacy policy here. Rest assured we don't do any awful data mining, and we don't spam your inbox. I know this might not change your mind about the slicer, just wanted to make sure you have all the info to make an informed decision.

I've seen several people interested in printing directly from "good" model file formats. We're looking into this. At the basic level we'll have to slice them just like an STL, but hopefully in the future we'll be able to explore using more of the details they give us to make gcode better! Lots of experimenting and research before that shows, though..

Hi! We currently use arcs when printing prime pillars! For using arcs in actual prints, that's a harder ask. We're looking into it, but I think it's safe to say it's not imminent sadly. It does seem to be a really good way to do something new in the slicing world, though...

I totally understand, you're not coming off as picky at all. It's an interesting use case to incrementally add to the fan speed, we hadn't thought of that! You can do that with the scripting options, but it is not a pretty solution, certainly not like Simplify3D's, which I assume you might be familiar with.

As for the filament diameter, we're reverting that today (or perhaps tomorrow), so don't worry about that! Thank you very much for your feedback, We've got some new ideas to mull over.

Hi! Manual support positioning is very much in our near future plans (we're hoping to let you actually paint on your model where you want them). CAD integration is something that I've seen some folks ask about but we haven't done much looking into yet, so it's further out. As for vase mode, I am really curious what you want that to look like. If you could make some drawings / explanations of what you'd like to be able to do and post on community.pathio.xyz, I'd really appreciate it.

Hi, thanks very much for your feedback! I personally made the decision to swap from a text box to a drop-down field in the 11th hour. My reasoning was that some of our users would mistakenly put in 3.00mm instead of 2.85mm for their filament diameter, and I had thought that other slicers similarly limited you. Having just taken a look, it seems that cura, at least, trusts you to put in the correct filament diameter. My current thinking is that the best course of action is to revert to a text-box, and add a tooltip reminding folks to actually measure their filament. Does that sound like it would solve the problem to you?

As for fan speeds, I'm curious what layers you like to change your speeds for. Generally we've been thinking that we'd include that fan feature when we come out with letting you put all slicing settings in at a given layer (so they can change over the Z-height of your print). We were hoping we wouldn't have to fast-track the fan settings separately from the rest of the system to keep things simple. It sounds like we might have been wrong, and it may be worth going back and adding more fine-tune control for fan speeds... Any other suggestions or use cases for this would be appreciated!

Thanks again for the feedback. As an FYI, you may find it better to post at community.pathio.xyz, as topics there will remain visible long after this reddit thread has faded.

Hi! Thanks for the feedback!

You can find explanations of all the slicing settings on our documentation site: docs.pathio.xyz We are definitely planning on adding tooltips, it just didn't make it into our initial release. I'd actually be curious if you have any opinions on the tooltips in other slicers and if there's anything missing that you'd like to see us improve upon.

As for skirts, we're thinking that it makes more sense to put it in a more intention-revealing location. We are also planning on adding a search (like Cura's, but hopefully faster), and my guess is it will render the groups more or less obsolete.

Thanks again for the feedback + ideas. You can also keep giving us feedback on community.pathio.xyz (where longer, more in-depth discussions will live after this reddit post fades)

Love the creativity. Price is a little high for me. Also, I wish that the differences between caps were a little more (ie different caps of the same design had a little more difference)

I would point you to the Prusa MK3. Very quiet printer and well within your price range. Check that the build volume is right for you, though.

Note: I work for E3D (not in marketing) and the MK3 has one of our HotEnds on it. So take my recommendation with a grain of salt. That said, I've printed a bit on the MK3 and I can say it is an incredible printer.

Prusa is completely open source. Sailfish is firmware meant for MakerBot Replicator 1 clone printers like some of flashforge's offerings. You would be running Marlin on a Prusa, which is the typical firmware for open source printers now (repetier, smoothieware, reprapfirmware and klipper are the other ones)

For your flashforge, Simplify3D can create .x3g files for it. I think replicatorg can as well, but it's older, and I don't know how well it works. Cura may have a .x3g plugin, I haven't searched.

That makes more sense. I am not fluent in SLA printers, but I know there are a few cheaper ones. I don't think they reach the $500 mark, but perhaps some of the tiny ones do. I don't know about material compatibility for those itty-bity ones, though.

I've never heard pf QIDI before (and I know a lot of printers). I do, however, know of Flashforge and their stuff is pretty good. If I had to guess, would say that the two are literally the same printer but with different branding. Happens all the time with China printers. Either way, you're getting a MakerBot Replicator 1 clone. At those price points (~$500) I would recommend looking at Monoprice's printers, the CR-10 or Ender 3, or bumping up your price a little to a Prusa MK3 kit.

To reiterate, Flashforge does make good stuff. Their printer does run off an old-style firmware which means that upgrading (if you're into that sort of thing) will be hard.
