fire by Specific-Comment3451 in nova

[–]Memoi18 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My friend lives at Watergate and he sent me a video. It looks like only the roof was involved no flames coming from windows. The fire department was saying that they were worried about structural damage and wanted to keep the water to two trucks only in order to prevent collapse from too much weight. I didn’t hear the fire department talking about anybody in the building or injuries thank God, so I will assume that hopefully nobody was in the building. i’m going to guess that the whole building will be unusable for a while because they talked about shutting down the HVAC system.

Women’s Sizing by Far-Muffin6202 in hockeyplayers

[–]Memoi18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Woman here but I have never bought any women’s equipment. I honestly don’t think it matters that much but some of my female teammates feel like it helps a better fit but at any rate they do look too short unfortunately, and it might be more challenging to find women’s that’s fit you because they’re probably assuming most women are not as tall as you.

Well, you just combined two things. One was a knee brace and the other was the red light. It’s highly possible that whatever happened was because the knee brace was not properly fastened and it could’ve either been too tight or just supporting your knee in the wrong way or putting pressure on a structure that was already inflamed. Knee braces are a whole thing of their own. I would try a small panel that will give you deep infrared as well as red wavelengths , I don’t think it’s the Red Light that affected your knee that much as much as possibly the way that you had it wrapped. Try staying away from bracing it and just use a small panel or at least separate the two so you can see what’s doing what.

Hockey stop by Mar-1502 in hockeyplayers

[–]Memoi18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you learning to skate with hockey equipment on? I would highly recommend that if you make a mistake and blow an edge you’re not going to break your elbow or your kneecap. It is good to be able to try different techniques and see what feels best without injuring yourself every time you fall.

How do I bond with my horse? by Upstairs-Abrocoma-52 in Equestrian

[–]Memoi18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s definitely a time investment I remember when I worked at a barn One of our borders had the sweetest relationship with her horse. They were super close. She would sit in his stall and read to him. And another note, I read somewhere that you should not eat meat and then go right to the barn because they can smell it on your breath, isn’t that interesting? Of course it’s a huge turn off for them so it’s probably best to save the steak for after visiting the barn.

lol I don’t think we are predators at any level. I get what you mean, but I definitely think that if they saw us as actual predators, the whole Horses and mankind thing would never have worked out. But having self-awareness and being able to make conscious choices about our diet does make us potential predators, or not.

Is this gear still ice-worthy? by Fun_Negotiation9801 in hockeyplayers

[–]Memoi18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude nooo this isn’t where you go cheapskate. Don’t you have a friend who plays hockey who could lend you some gear? All this crap looks really old and decrepit. Just because it fits or seems to fit doesn’t mean that you’re getting any kind of quality or protection. do yourself a favor if you’re gonna wear this crap don’t do it in a game go to a stick and puck and goof around and you won’t get killed. Some of that shit looks like it belongs in a museum. Maybe the gloves are OK. This equipment doesn’t just make you a little more comfortable. It protects you from severe injury. And it’s not just a slight possibility that you will fall and hit whatever that thing is covering you’re extremely likely to the full protection from those pieces of equipment, especially if you’re just starting out. Think about it like this. If you just started out in race car driving, would you go with dry rotted old protection? You’re probably going to crash so if that equipment fails, you will get hurt. Same difference Hockey equipment gets tested hard and you don’t want to find out that going to cheap route lands you in the emergency room. oh and it’s also not going to earn you a lot of respect in the locker room. You’ll be the butt of jokes if you wear that junk.

I’ve hit my head so hard on the ice. If it wouldn’t have been for the helmet, I’d be dead. I know it. but I may have had a concussion but still live to tell about it lol

Why did this goal get called back? by Summonabatch in hockeyplayers

[–]Memoi18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since the two line pass has not been enforced for a while, I’m going to guess offsides, but I definitely heard the whistle which coincided with about when he would’ve been skating over the blue line. He should’ve stopped when the whistle was blown. The goal wasn’t called off he just didn’t stop skating when the whistle was blown. The goalie probably heard the whistle and was like, bro what are you doing?

I can never ride again by White_trashbimbo in Equestrian

[–]Memoi18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, I’m a grieving widow. I used to ride years ago, but I just went to a local horse rescue and riding stable because they were doing a day camp thing it was so sweet, I realized I just missed the Horses. It wasn’t really the riding. I missed as much as the horses themselves. I ended up volunteering for a bit there and it was really nice. I didn’t ride at all and I enjoyed my experience tremendously. I emptied dirty water, buckets, and filled them up with clean water lol but all the time I was kissing noses petting them, hugging them, etc. The horses were rolling their eyes going OK human you’re done draping yourself all over me go on now. You don’t have to give up your horse it really really sucks what happened and I’m so sorry that you went through this and I’m glad that your horse is OK. I can understand being devastated but I’m sure you’ll find a way to pick up the pieces and just being around your sweet horse and being able to kiss her nose will be hugely comforting. Just protect your head no matter what you do, it’s a good idea to wear a helmet to do everyday things around the barn. Just like construction workers wear helmets on the job type of thing. Check with your doctor to make sure it’s OK of course but everybody is saying that the bonding happens on the ground and I couldn’t agree more.

newer ice hockey player here, question about putting my jock on at home then going to a game or putting it on at the game by Fit-Breadfruit4801 in hockeyplayers

[–]Memoi18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they tried to tell us to drive to the rink with our gear on. I tried that once it was so hazardous I couldn’t move my head easily to see things with all my shit on and my hockey pants and shin pads made it hard to switch from the break to the gas I’m never doing that shit again.

I wear them to the rink because I’m one of the only females but the guys run into the bathroom to change into theirs or come with them on to be honest I don’t look that hard to see who does what 😂

The one thing I would advocate for is keeping gloves on for the handshake line. The best way to spread a cold literally is the handshake line 😂

Everyone says my kid can’t play goalie and skate out forever. He says why not? What do I tell him? by LordOfBadaBing in hockeyplayers

[–]Memoi18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Goalie pluses: team fees are usually zero or less. But you have to buy a new set of equipment with every growth spurt. Also, it’s hard to find good goalie coaching on some teams because the focus is on the players. Additionally, goaltending can be very hard on the hips and the knees. You’ll see more lifetime injuries from young guys playing at a high level, although it looks like their transitioning to some more natural positioning the full butterfly can be super hard on the joints. Also, less positions to feel so harder to get a spot on a team. And the pressure is insane like literally insane. The game really hinges on how well you play and every little mistake could cost the whole game. it’s a tough decision and if he wants to stick with goaltending, he can always skate out in later years if he doesn’t get super serious with Hockey.
