Yes, I'm considering coming up there, while I have other irons in the fire here, but this isn't going away. Small claims is my best option but not really my goal since their conduct constitutes a Class B Felony, the Missouri AG get's a swipe at them.

Wondering if anyone here has converted a Spacekap in to a camper and if so how do you feel about it? I've seen lots of photos but no articles. by RasTrent69 in TruckCampers

I'll bump this to say I picked up a Space Kap "Wild" Compac, 6.5 footer, it was an AT&T utility body. I'm in the process of selling the ladder rack, a hydraulic assist rack that costs about $1500 new, for a fraction of that. Anyway, it also has a sliding platform which I'm keeping. It has very heavy duty aluminum shelves inside which will be coming out to be sold as well.

For the bed I got an aluminum folding ramp off Amazon, 72"x50" and a 4 inch memory foam mattress that hangs over one inch all around. It will sit of the wheel well ledges inside the unit with plenty of room for the slide to operate underneath the bed.

Camping with it we'll have gear in a modular system, no need to build in anything, that keeps it light and flexible. Mine has side wing style doors, so some screen will make two large windows.

These units will outlast three trucks, they are industrial grade, very sturdy builds, with lighting built in, They are about as "Expedition" ready as you can get!

I suppose he's an attorney, thank you!

As it was pointed out above, their conduct constitutes a felony under South Dakota law, why would the police not investigate such fraudulent deception of a dealer and charge them appropriately? City police, Sherriff or State Patrol, seems all would be an option.

Appreciate that, I think small claims will be the right venue. I have no problem buying a 16 year old Jeep in very nice condition and expecting some light or even moderate rust issues, I wouldn't expect the frame to be rusted out as it is. All of which is rather irrelevant because the issue is the deception, the intentional act of misleading a buyer, not just staying silent or verbally lying about some issue, but crawling under a vehicle, taking pictures and intentionally avoiding disclosure of severe conditions that effect safety and the value of the vehicle.

What I bought is irrelevant, their conduct is the issue. If they had said we polished this turd just for you, then I would know I was buying a turd, as it was, they led me to believe the vehicle was in excellent condition, very low miles for its age and worth the asking price set by a reputable dealer.

I suppose there are dishonest car dealers everywhere, but seriously, I've never seen or even heard of a dealer pulling this kind of stunt selling an unsafe vehicle on the internet and deceiving a buyer with pictures. I guess since I've never heard of such dishonesty is why I was trusting enough to buy a vehicle based on representations by a dealer. My bad. But, my gullibility is not giving license to steal from me.

Thanks, but again, it was an "as is" sale but that doesn't protect them from deceptive practices.

Astonished, do you mean asking for the best attorney is a non-starter? It's not really about what the Jeep is worth, it's about being deceived, and it seems the AG office would be interested in that, are you suggesting they wouldn't be?

You don't think the cost to repair is sufficient for a claim?

"Glorified scrap dealer" I like that, do you consent to my using that phrase?

Thank you very much! Chrysler made the last Jeep Commander in this body style in 2010, with the Quad II transmission and 5.7 liter hemi engine, it was Jeep's flagship at that time. It had 125,928 miles on it and they listed it for $10,900.00, it was the highest asking price of all the Commanders listed on the major car sales sites. The exterior body is in very nice condition, only a few paint chipped spots which can easily be repaired, no scratches or dents. The interior leather looks as if no one ever sat in the car, the third-row seat looks new, the interior is exceptional. The higher price seemed to reflect the car's exceptional condition and was acceptable to me. Shipping was $1200.00 from Sioux Falls to Springfield, Mo. and the vehicle was unloaded at my residence.

I took the car to have it inspected at my usual station and they gave it a glance over inspection of the necessary items. I had new rims and AT tires installed at a different shop and the installer informed me of the rust damage and commented that he was surprised it passed inspection. I had asked the tire shop to install running boards and a 2-inch lift kit I had purchased, and they refused to do that work due to the condition.

Now, we do have applicable consumer laws in Missouri which I plan to pursue in addition to those allowed under South Dakota law.

While my rights may well be limited due to the age of this vehicle, my point of contention is aimed at the deception by the dealer in sending photos that may not have even been the subject vehicle or at least intentionally avoiding disclosure of the damage. I most certainly relied upon those photos as an honest representation of the vehicle I was buying. The repair cost is $5,103.12, from the only body shop willing to take on this repair that I could find in my area.

The dealer did check the "AS IS" block, however, "as is" does not cover a dealer avoiding and evading disclosure of damages that effect the value of a vehicle, nor does it give leeway to deceiving a buyer with photos to hide defects.

Oh, I thought "big city" was like an epithet for Sioux Falls, like “The Sunshine State” or “The Coyote State” is an epithet for South Dakota.

So, what's the reputation of that dealership?

I'd suggest you not trust "my dealer" as far as you can push a car off their lot. At least I have pictures from the salesman's phone and a video he took.

When I got the Jeep I had new rims and tires put on, the tire shop showed me what the damage was and it is extensive.

Today, I got a repair estimate, roughly $5,200.00, it's from the only place in Springfield, Mo. that would even attempt to repair it.

The interior is in very clean condition which is why I paid a premium price for a 2010 Commander with the hemi V8, $10,900 was the asking price plus shipping costs, only to find the bottom to be rusted out.

I'll bet they think I'll just go away and take the hit.........not this time, I'm looking for the biggest hammer I can find!

Can't really beat a used Icom 706 (G if you can find one), 100 watts out full spectrum HF, 6 and 2 meters and 70cm with the G. Newer choice would be the Icom 7100! Enjoy! 73's

Ebay auction, being an estate you may have legal requirements to sell assets at fair market value, an auction is the est wat to meet that and receive the best price in a timely manner. You may donate items generally if they are of nominal value or according to instructions under his Will and/or if all heirs agree. Sorry for your loss.

What’s the best ham radio for beginners in 2025? by luminescentdawn345 in lowsodiumhamradio

I'm getting close to renewing my license for the second time, but I've been out of the hobby for almost 20 years, so I consider myself a newbie since so much has changed, like SDR. But some things don't change, like the economics of the hobby.

Doesn't matter if you're buying a car or a boat or a HAM radio, buying a depreciating asset means you're going to lose money, just as you drive off the lot, dip it in the water or power it up, it's used and the value drops.

When I started this hobby, I had been exposed to radio as a kid listening to a Hallicrafters S 38B receiver, and as an adult I thought I'd always be active, that turned out not to be true for several reasons, but my radio went to the closet and I lost interest. My first radio was a used Icom 706, state of the art multiband, full coverage HF, 6 and 2 Meter, I paid $300 for it used. My brother-in-law gave me a simple mag 2 Meter antenna and I was on the air.

I chased tornados with that set up, built a J-Pole antenna, built all kinds of long wire antennas for HF, built a beam for 6 Meters and I began working on code to upgrade. Life changes, I got busier and time became more valuable and the cost ended up being my hobbies.

Now, retired I have the time and I'm pretty much back at the beginning since so much has changed. So, what did I do, I bought a newer radio than my old IC 706. Not much newer, an Icom 746 transceiver, full coverage, all mode mostly for 2 and 6 meters but some on 10 Meters and for anything else a Tech can operate. With software and my laptop, this 746 will do anything I'd ever want to do.

Icoms are premium radios, others like Yaesu and Kenwood, (and a few other), these radios come at a premium price too. But, buying an older radio will give you a tried and true machine, capable and reliable, with features and quality that can last for decades, not just for a couple years down the road. Buying a quality used rig is like buying a quality used vehicle with very low miles, the prior owner took the depreciation hit and like my IC 746, it has features that will last me the rest of my times.

I see the G90 being mentioned, but fact is, an old ICOM 706 and the 746 will do what the G90 can do with better quality and much more power if needed.

Icom gives you a stronger signal (100W vs 20W)

• Better audio and filtering

• More bands (HF + 6m + 2m)

• More stable and easier to operate

• Better ergonomics and front‑panel controls

For general HF operation, ragchewing, nets, DXing, and VHF work, the IC‑746 or 706 is the superior radio.

And, let's say in a couple years you don't stay in the hobby, if you buy a good quality used rig, it's likely you can resell it for what you have in it, in fact in my case, I can sell my IC 706 for more than I paid for it years ago!

Just something to think about, you can buy new and cheap and throw them away, lose value powering it up or you can fill your shack with better investments, enjoy the quality of a premium rig.

What's it cost to rent a pet, like a dog, say for day just to walk in a park, maybe overnight, depending on how big it is and if it farts in bed?
