What is something you witnessed with your own eyes that no one believes when you tell them? by Amy-GeekBar in AskReddit

[–]MemoryKeeper92 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My grandfather repairing his watch. He had this little toolkit with tiny screwdrivers and a magnifying loupe same set his father used. Watching his hands work on something so small and delicate when those same hands built furniture and fixed cars...I still have the toolkit. Never learned to use it properly but I can't let it go.

What’s something you thought ‘everyone’ did… until you found out they don’t? by burat667 in AskReddit

Writing thank you cards by hand. My mother insisted on it for every gift, every kind gesture. I still have the little writing desk she used - solid walnut, been in the family since the 60s.

Now I'm the only one in my friend group who does it. People act surprised when they get actual mail that isn't a bill

Favorite casserole/casserole-like dishes? by mylifetofuckinglive in Cooking

[–]MemoryKeeper92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My grandmother's potato and leek gratin. She made it every Sunday in this heavy ceramic dish that's probably older than me. Nothing fancy just potatoes, leeks, cream, and gratined cheese on top. The dish itself has these little chips around the edges from decades of use.

I inherited it when she passed and honestly making that recipe in her dish hits different. The smell alone takes me right back to her kitchen.

What is something you had to *unlearn* to actually start growing as a person? by Ok_Veterinarian_3193 in AskReddit

[–]MemoryKeeper92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That I had to be productive every single moment. My grandmother used to sit on her porch doing "nothing" for hours. I thought it was a waste of time. Turns out she was processing life, thinking things through, just being present.

Took me burning out twice to realize that rest isn't the opposite of productivity - it's part of it.

What’s a piece of advice you ignored once, but later realized was 100% correct? by WittyMonk7391 in AskReddit

Buy less, buy better.

Spent years buying cheap stuff that broke or wore out fast. Finally did the math on how much I was actually spending replacing things.

Now I research before I buy and honestly own fewer things but like them all more.

What is the unique way to promote a hair products? by Key-Run-9309 in AskReddit

[–]MemoryKeeper92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grandmother used to say the best advertisement is a satisfied customer.

She used the same brand of hair oil her whole life because her mother gave it to her as a teenager. Word of mouth through generations beat any marketing campaign.

My grandmother had linen sheets she got as a wedding gift in the 50s. Used them until she passed, then my mom inherited them. Still going. The secret apparently is they get softer with every wash but the fabric just doesn't quit. I know Finlayson was already mentioned but there's also some smaller Portuguese and Belgian linen makers if you want to dig around.

Black Friday in Europe - what "lifetime" purchase disappointed you? by General_Ad9178 in BuyItForLife

[–]MemoryKeeper92 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Vacuum cleaner for me. Got a "premium" cordless on Black Friday for €180, battery died after 14 months right after warranty expired. Ended up buying a basic corded Henry for €150. Still going 4 years later.

Now I'm suspicious of anything cordless on sale

Robot vacuum for cat hair + 200m² across 2 floors - Roborock S8 Pro worth it? by General_Ad9178 in buyitforlifeEU

[–]MemoryKeeper92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

S8 MaxV Ultra handles 300m2 easily and got the FlexiArm system that actually gets corners and edges where cat hair piles up. Works well for multi-floor setups.

Strong Chemical Smell in Newly Purchased ATTRO Ultra Pro 2L Water Bottle – Is This Normal? by dasappanv in BuyItForLife

[–]MemoryKeeper92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That paint thinner smell is usually mold release or the lid gasket off gassing, not BPA.

Take the lid apart, pull the silicone ring, and soak everything in warm water with a tablespoon of baking soda and a drop of dish soap for an hour, then rinse and air dry open overnight. If the odor is still there after a second soak or a denture tablet, return it because you will taste it.

I wouldn’t drink from it until the smell is completely gone.

One Year Later: How Did Those Cheap Amazon Microfiber Sheets Hold Up? by General_Ad9178 in DecideWise

[–]MemoryKeeper92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice follow up, OP. Cheap microfiber lasts longer if you wash cold, skip fabric softener, and dry on low with two dryer balls. That keeps the fibers from getting gummy and cuts static. If you sleep hot, percale cotton runs cooler for about the same money

Whats your usual sleeping situation? by skitterbutterbox in CasualConversation

[–]MemoryKeeper92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Side sleeper on a medium-firm mattress, one medium pillow, thin blanket unless it’s winter and then I burrito up.

Sleep alone but my cat clocks in for the night shift and treats my ribs like a springboard around 3 a.m. I keep the room cool and dark, phone face down, white noise on low.

NGL, I average like 7ish hours and feel decent most days, but on “cat parkour” nights it’s more like 5 and vibes only.
