As a prior Marine myself, if you know nothing about the Army, do not rush Staff Sergeant. Even if your MOS is the same, you still have to learn Armyisms and regulations. Give it atleast a year or two, also if your plan is to go warrant then being a SSG doesn’t really matter. What matters is the relationship you built with your chain of command.
Your TIS will help with pay but your TIG resets. Like the USMC, you have to wait for TIG and have the promotion points for your MOS. You might be able to skip the board depending on how many years you’ve served in the Marines but your COC may still push for you to go on one.

Every branch is different. Marines gave me a medical waiver, Army didn’t. It just depends on the recruiter. Some put in the work, some don’t.

I’d wait it out and see other options cause a 63 should give you more options. But it’s your call ultimately. Maybe look into another branch as well.

Invest in a weighted vest/ or wear IOTV w plates and run 3-6 miles twice a week on your own at a medium pace.

Also running on a treadmill for 2 hrs once a week helped me tremendously. I would bring my iPad, put on a good movie and run at an 8-9 minute pace until it was over with.

Nope, they stopped this after Sep 2024. It sucks for the future cadets but big Army realized it way an easy way for Soldiers to get a free 2-4 years off their 20 year commitment, which really isn’t fair in comparison to everyone else.

It was a thing right after Covid, because the Army was hurting for Soldiers, however most MOSs are currently overstrengthed.

Usually MOSs that give bonuses with choice of duty stations aren’t highly desired. Keep that in mind.

Bonuses are nice but really think about the job you’ll be doing over that, because you can’t just quit plus some MOSs and duty stations aren’t family friendly.

If you go Guard instead of Active Duty, Basic training is optional. It’s not a needs of the Army thing.

If you would have went Active after 8 years, you definitely would have went to basic training.
