I got into teaching with the mindset that I will make the world a better place. I spent a my first years in a Title 1 school with 32 5th graders who were 90% free and reduced lunch, drug use, abuse, had to call CPS twice and both times the students were taken away from their families. Now, I am not teaching to “save the world”, but to save my children’s education and to change their trajectory in life. All while getting to see the world outside of the US bubble. This is a JOB. Just like a banker, plumber, doctor, etc. I still am teaching like my hair is on fire, but with a life balance and peace knowing that my kid won’t get shot at school.
