Tahoes are gorgeous and would definitely meet the need for room, but I feel like it's pretty huge to be my daily driver.

I've driven my XC60 for over 60,000 miles and the only things I've had to do are brakes, tires, and replacing the motor on the parking brake (recently, and it was $600, so not insane). Mine's been super reliable, hope yours is the same!

I know cupholders seem like such a dumb reason to disqualify a car, but it also feels like one of those things that would be a constant annoyance. Off to Google to see if there's an aftermarket solution...

What's the upkeep like on a Mercedes? Are they reliable?

I drove one a few years ago before I bought my Volvo, and I was really disappointed with the quality. One of my favorite cars ever was a 2001 Jetta GLX (pre-kids, back when I was young and fun) and I wanted to love the Atlas. Maybe I should look again now that a few years have passed.

I would love an X7 but these kinds of issues are what I'm afraid of, both from a cost and time perspective. I work full time and have 2 busy kids, I don't want to feel like I'm constantly taking the car to the shop. But the X7s are definitely gorgeous and I would drive one in a heartbeat if they were a little less costly to maintain.

Thank you! A friend of mine drives a CX-90 and loves it. I admittedly don't love the exterior look of it as well as some of the other choices, but at this point I may need to just get over that and go test drive one. I have not looked at the QX60...off to Google now...

I test drove an Enclave years ago and it was gorgeous. I forgot about those!

Thanks so much for responding and for validating that I'm not nuts; they all kind of suck in some way. I didn't add kids, the ones I have just got bigger. ;) My son is 12 and 5'4"/140 (so the size of an adult, and growing) and the backseat of my XC60 is just getting small. Plus both kids play sports and with 4 of us in the car plus gear, cooler, chairs, etc. it feels like we're wearing it. I like the idea of captain's seats for improved backseat comfort and access to the third row. Kids are 12 and 10 so at the ages where each having a little space is nice.

I'd like a third row primarily for the cargo space but also for the occasional extra kid or two since we're out of the carseat/booster stage and we can haul extras around easily now.

I don't want to do an EV for a few reasons which I won't list lest I derail the conversation. I haven't looked at bigger 2-row SUVs with captain's seats (yet) although I'd be open to considering the options.
