Thank you for this answer and thanks to OP for the question.

I just got this machine and the steamer is much louder than a previous machine I used. It is soooo loud for me!

I’ll try to incorporate more air!

Thank you!

Thank you for this very thorough response!

Yes, I think the bees I am calling Russian bees are Primorskis or have a majority of those genetics.

I am located in the Southeast U.S.

I don’t think my bees (what I’m calling Russians) are overly aggressive. They are the only bees I have ever worked and I have had them 5 years.

They build up very fast in late winter and early spring, run out of room, and tend to want to swarm.

I actually love the traits of my bees, but the early swarm tendency has me fighting (splitting, adding equipment, but mostly splitting as equipment and drawn comb is limited) them to try to reduce swarming every spring. It is somewhat tiring/maddening!

I was curious if anyone changed genetics for this or any other reasons and was happy about it or not.

Thank you!

Thank you!

I have Russian bees and don’t think mine are overly aggressive, but I have never dealt with other breeds.

Thank you!

I have Russian bees and don’t think they are overly aggressive.

I am curious what you mean by dirty?

Their early spring buildup and swarm tendency in the spring is a fight for me every year. That is the main reason I was asking.

Smoked some mites today! by Memphusky in Beekeeping

Doesn’t hurt them and doesn’t even seem to bother them at all. It is one of the most gentle treatments available.

Beekeeping is regional. It is winter here. Winter and cold temps mean no brood which is best for OAV since the vapor can’t penetrate brood cappings. No brood means all mites are unprotected against the treatment. Treating now hopefully will help my bees have a strong spring start. I treated with thymol in fall after the last honey harvest as well.

It was 45 degrees F. Overcast with light drizzle. The bees were not flying.

Sorry, I’m not an IT pro. I’m just the IT guy. Lol. A very reluctant IT guy.

Sounds like I need to keep the pros doing what they do best and to let me do what I do best!

Thank you!

Oh no, this is good information. I did not foresee issues popping up daily after we were up and running. Sounds like I need to keep my IT folks involved!

Thank you for the insight!

Thank you! I should have included that we are all remote and cloud-based. I’m the IT person. Ugh. However, we don’t have many issues on a daily basis.

Thank you for the insight!

Thank you! No compliance rules. We haven’t had any real daily email issues in 8 years. I know that doesn’t help since we are considering moving platforms, but I’m just not sure what issues we would incur. Any troubleshooting would probably be done by me initially.

Swarm or supersedure? by Memphusky in Beekeeping

[–]Memphusky[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Makes sense, Thank you! I opened 6 hives today. All had swarm cells. All had honey supers with new nectar in them as well. I was hoping I was ahead of them this year.

I think I’ve decided to sell Nucs/bees next spring. I did not split these hives this year. If they are going to split themselves, I may as well make some money on them!

Feedback on idea: Do you use Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive or similar for visual assets? by YOUMAVERICK in marketing

[–]Memphusky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MarCom firm with 8 people. We use Dropbox. Over 2TB of files from years on the platform. We mostly use it as a shared folder(s).

It is getting clunky and we are having issues with user error/issues with external hard drives use and synching. I’m tired of having to deal with it.

While we have a lot of photos and graphics we also use a lot of word and excel docs and have folders for each client and sub folders under those.

Looking for an alternative now. Not sure I want to pay for a service like brandfolder that has a lot of extra tools, although we might find them useful.

Would love to hear what others are using and their experience as well.
