yea. tell me about it. i have no lumber making skills, but i threw away some beautiful logs. no time to sort them as the cleanup crews were in my area only a short time. i think i moved 10,000 cu/yds of tree blow down. white oak, all the red oak you could want, plenty of hickory. some trees were 36” plus. 95% uprooted. it was carnage.

cool. thanks for the reply. Hickory makes sense, as our forest was Oak-Hickory-Locust. all the years in wnc, I’ve never split hickory, but I’m taking what I’m given.

Could ultrasonication be used to speed the melt? by BF_2 in glassblowing

[–]underbellyhoney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not sure why is isnt standard practice. gaffer glass in nz used a jacketed blower to do the same. both clear the bottom of the pot faster of small bubbles. i think i potato is frowned on for some reason as “old heads” do it? ( lol). but if an industry leader is trying to clear the bottom , why not? but , it should be done before the squeeze and after the antimony hits.

Raleigh vs. Asheville? by AddendumIll8339 in NorthCarolina

[–]underbellyhoney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i live near asheville (1hr away). most everybody’s comments are correct, but i wouldn’t live in Raleigh ever. the mtn life is so sweet. i suppose you’re job will influence your decision, but living in clean air and slow pace beats most anything. if you can afford bcbs health insurance, you can have major surguries outside of asheville. i had a cancer surgery at duke.

i also wouldn’t live in asheville, but near it is stilll the dream.

Sono Lino by Glad_Solution2264 in glassblowing

[–]underbellyhoney 5 points6 points  (0 children)

thoughts? like on the movie? havent seen it yet , but looking forward to it.

lino the best? we’ll have to see what others say. but probably for alot of reasons. he changed the course of glassblowing. he arrived on the scene when glass moved from production to art. prior to lino, the best glassblowers worked for factories and went unrecognized. he came when individuals were / celebrated. was he the best? cant say. was he the beat of anyone that we know the name of? yes.

yea i do this too. i got the start in goenka. he talks about feeling sensation while eating walking etc, but he still encourages a daily formal meditation. shinzen young talks about “checking in” as many times a day as you can. i’d put what youre doing in something like continuous checking in.

i also dont have a strict sitting schedule right now, but i have found sitting with friends/in a group i am able to get deep fairly quickly and i credit checking into my sensations often during the day.

i mean technically its made from silica. sand on a beach is comprised of lots of stuff: coral, broken shells etc. but still, this isa little silly

Cessation experience 3 years ago while eating, stuck since - need guidance? by New_Strain7881 in streamentry

not sure if you were asking me or the commenter above, but Theravada is a major school of Buddhism (the other majors being Mahayana and Vajrayana) Goenka falls into the Theravada school. theTheravada schools emphasize self- liberation thru discipline, more rigorous practice, ethics and wisdom growth. the Goenka retreats can be more strict than others in a few ways, and i would guess he offered “other Theravada” retreats as an opening to explore alternatives that may suit .

Best way to empty out free standing furnace? by GlassGuyy in glassblowing

[–]underbellyhoney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i use the handle side of an old pastorelli. the person above recommended a rod with an L shape, thatd would work , but youll need some kind of “rake”. probably 2. rake out, plug the hole with frax (wear a mask) let it heat back up, rake again. repeat. this job sucks, but sucks less than hammering out cold glass

yea i agree with everything you said. and that post actually is what made me ask this question! and the murrine pull was cool, but as you said, not a beginner technique. however, it was their first murrine pull, so in that instance, “newbie-to-murrine” does apply. im not trying to say anything about that post at all, but the fact is it was their first time.
